172 phase 2 suspension setup.

Using my clio a fair bit on track now, and im noticing how much roll its getting on the corners. So looking at getting some new suspension, someone told me that the cup suspension is worth going for but not sure. Seems to be pleanty of track clios on here so looking for some advice please.

cup suspension wont really give you any less roll over the normal 172 setup, slightly less possibly. however its worth going cup setup if your going brand new genuine as its the same price.

i like the standard setup so my £400+ would be going on cup dampers all round, eibach sportlines, top mounts, track rod ends, track rods, bottom arms and a geometry setup.

but most would probably spunk the full £600 on coilovers and throw them on.

I dont know if coilovers are the best option, i aint into lowering my car and all that side of things. Just want whats best for hard track use.

Cup shocks are slightly firmer which means that they offer slightly more roll inertia, but ultimately the amount of roll resistance that determines where the car settles during a bend is down to the firmness of the springs and the ARB.

A set of cup shocks is very cheap and at least then they are new, where as your current ones quite possibly are past their best.

Add some eibach springs and it makes a big difference to how much it leans, and the extra roll resistance makes it feel a lot more sure footed on turn in, but dont be seduced by that side of it, it can make you keep going harder and harder until your corner speed actually drops but it still feels so epic on turn-in you think you are improving it.

A bit of compliance is very useful IMHO, especially if you like to hop the occasional kerb on track, so dont search for a setup that allows the car to corner totally flat IME

Thanks for that chip, so you think im best of going for cup dampers with eibetch springs. Is that all round i take it? What about a rear anti roll bar, aswell as changing the bushes? Sorry for all the questions, just very new to all this.

Yes mate, all round.

Try it without the uprated rear ARB first, you might like it without that anyway.

We do a lot of trackdays in our 172 and havent felt its handicapped by not having the uprated rear ARB, but others would disagree, its a personal choice really.

Thanks for your help chip, think im going to go with your advice. Were is the best place to get new cup shocks from? And what eibitech springs should i be looking at?

needs to be renault for the dampers to get the proper ones. before you start spending money on ARB's etc check the parts i listed above too, best money i ever spent was refreshing all mine.
