Fix it up for now... bare minimum so it is "usable"!! (Option 3)

Enjoy the car throughout summer, rag it around on track.. then if the engine ends up breaking or you are still craving that high comp build. Rebuild over winter?

TBH the engine does look a little rough around the edges, take it out full strip down/inspection.. put the thing back together and tidy it up!

actually yeah, reading it option 2 sounds like the best....option 3 would end up like option 2 in the end anyway lol

Ran fine when I had it a few months back. Ran well, no missfires or loss of oil. Ah well.
This car just seems like a money pit. I had it for 6 months or so and it cost me well over £1k not to mention the debilitating depreciation over that time!!

The engines been rebuilt several times hence for me option 3 is no go - cannae polish a turd (I mean the engine not the car)

Yeah i've worte off options 3&4

So it leaves me with

1- gets me a rock solid high comp engine (5-8hp more) but it is £1200 more (minium)

2- gets me the car back running as-was! still got the high flow head, camps , boddies, will swap the fly wheel etc. The BE should be fine as ive got a good solid one from Incarus. Ill slap some ARPs on it so i know its holds at high rpm...but im 5-8 hp down! (from option 1)


I think a deciding vote for me will be... the car was advertised with having highcomp pistons fitted (http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=305697) , im going to take a plug out today have a nose down the bore and see if they are even there! If they are then thats £500 in my back poket towards option 1!

Sounds like a plan... although my main tatic was to set a budget cap after last times spiral of spec and costs!lol

More s**t, just pulled the plugs out and popped a bore scope down there, OEM f**king pistons lol.

Oh and the state of them is comedy! the plugs were.. urm intresting too!

4-2-1 gives good mid range torque and a few more hp, but 4-1 rocks for high reving na's

I've fixed the hunk of s**t :)

YEY!

Problems fixed today were,

Found the oil leak (3 places) First was the sump bolts were all loose :/ second was the oil filter had burst and had rust holes in it and the oil pressure sensor was not tight :/

Dropped the old oil out (what was left of it) and it was like tar, thick, black and stunk of fuel!

Popped a new filter on ( there fun to change with itb's lol) and filled her up with some fresh oil! i will leave this stuff in for a week then change it again, it defo needs a good flush!

Next thing to fit was the brakes, the pedal was very hard and the car would not lock up! so decided to look at the servo assist vac line under the ITB's, turned out that the hoses had all come off the manifold! There like rubber vac hose pushed onto brass nipples, so popped back to halfrauds and picked up 5 small jubilee clips! 10 mins later all fixed! brakes work fine! but they need new pads (and maybe some new galfer rotors, feck knows how much and where for them :/)

Finally i set about fixing the oil catch system, well I'm still not finished tbh.. it needs a new breather filter! But I managed to fix all the samco hoses that were loose/blocked

Sooooo all was going well! took it for a drive and it seemed to be running fine! bar the missfire!

Then I brought it back to find my dad raging about the oil on the drive/tools all over the place (i hadn't finished and planned on cleaning the oil up)! so he has banned the car and me working on it permo! which sucks ass. Looks like ill be paying birchdown to finish the rest of the car!

Oh and when putting the wheel back on i managed to mangle one of the bolts because the f**king shitty spacers wouldn't line up!!!!!

So my plan now is to get the block compression tested and if all is well.. then once all the other bits are sorted ill just take it to RST for a good map.

If the block is badgered then its new engine time!

Find out a week tomorow!
