Hi folks I have had a read about and can't find an answer 100% so just thought id make a new topic..

A 2003 Clio 172 Sport

Just had timing kit and dephaser done at a local garage on the cheap I'm unsure whether they had the correct locking tools haven't asked the lad who took the car there, car is running lumpy on idle, and when it goes it's really really flat (like 1.4 power) but then at around 5-6k will still kick but still doesn't feel like it's giving it's all, also feels a bit like it's missing slightly,

Now We've spoken to another specialist garage he's listened to the car running, and right away he just said timing, it's not been done right, does this sound right? He said he can adjust it just want to see if anyone's had a similiar problem and if it's been due to anything else? I know some people have MAF problems etc but this is bringing no
Fault codes up so can't see it being electrical?

Thanks for reading! Help!

Yeah they said it's an easy enough job to rectify, just wanted to see what you all thought about it.

and was rushing didn't mean MAF I meant throttle body oops :)

Its easy enough for them to check, cam caps will have to be removed and replaced, that's about half an hour to an hour to check. if its out as in the horseshoe doesn't fit into the cams you should be talking a few hours for them to adjust to the correct timing.

I've been quoted £120 off the garage inc a power run on Dyno after it's set up, seems pretty reasonable?

  Lots of Scrap...
as above, I'd make sure the new garage has the right credentials to work on these engines! don't want to get burned twice

I noticed you're in Darwen. Take a trip down to Birchdown, they're in Malpas.

Would take you about an hour and half to get there, but it'd be worth it to know it's been done properly.

A local Tuner called
A.D.Edmundson before it goes in I'll
Ensure they've got the correct tools to time up :)

I have a hammer and chisel along with an aray of other tools for my job, Just because i have them doesn't mean i know how to use them.

I love and hate threads like these. Poor Clios :(

At least go back to the first garage under the premise they've done the job wrong (because they have) and get them to either refund you or pay for it to be fixed by a specialist.

My Clio was very similar. I took it to dan at sj motors and he sorted it out and said timing was out would highly recommend him if your close.

Yeah I know what you mean, I'm
Pretty sure he knows what he's doing with them he's built a cammed and mapped 172 track car down there and he said he can time them correctly but if not then it will go elsewhere, the belts and dephaser here done as a foreigner from a local garage to where the lad lives.
