172 running on three cylinders?

My dads phase 2 172's been running really rough lately & misfiring, he took it to his MOT dude on Friday & he said that it's only running on three cylinders & that it's probably the coil pack at fault - I thought they had four ? He says they only have one :frowning: How many do they have?

He said that it had the spark plugs changed two years ago when he had the (second) cambelt change etc done. No lights are on on the dashboard. I've heard it & it sounds like a bag of spanners.

What will he need to buy? He's on about replacing the whole lot :expressionless:

Coil pack is one unit, feeds four spark plug leads and 4 spark plugs.

Cheap as chips to replace the lot and that's the first place I'd be starting.

no worries.
I bought it coz I had a similar issue, tried plugs, injectors and coil pack.
Mine turned out to be HT leads.

Yes, but make sure he gets oe spec NGK plugs. Non-gen ones don't last 5 minutes.

It's not needed. In an ideal world you'd replace it but they're perfectly fine to reuse.
