172 sounds like an scooby?

  ibiza cupra
my 172 has started sounding like a subaru and not running properly with sh*t loads of smoke coming from the exhust. then it will stop and be fine and the smoke will stop. im assuming that this may be somthing to do with the coil pack or ht leats and the smoke is unignighted fuel.
i did an oil change yesterday too but i dont think that has anything to do with it, just coincidence but im not sure. can any one shed some light on it for me please and if it is the leads and coil, where is the best place to get them from?
cheers chap.

HT leads, coil pack or spark plugs are the usual port of call, smoke coming out sounds a bit like when my engine was pissing oil and seized up though!

the smoke went when it started driving normally though. my missis was following me and said it had stopped. would that still happen?

Mine did it on the motorway and just stopped lol so not sure if it's the same thing, more than likely not!

Yeah if it's black smoke it'll be fuel, if it's white/blue it might be a bit more serious than you think.

Did you unplug any of the sensors or spill any oil where it could have caused a potential prob? Knock a injector etc ?

  ibiza cupra
not that im aware of but im gona have a look when i get chance.
the missis said that she thinks it was black smoke so touch wood its not serious.

mine did this it was just a loose spark plug thank god i thought it was gonna be an expensive job mega happy when i noticed it had just come loose for some reason

yeah gonna check then too. any one know what the gap size is suposed to be on them as i might as well check them at the same time.

if youve put too much oil in then the block will pressurise forcing oil into the plenum and burn up through the engine, cusing misfire and smoke out the back, i did this the once when topping my oil up. or it could be coil pack leads ot plugs

checked it all today and all the plugs are tight so sprayed an little wd40 over them all to make sure there was no moisture in there and checked the injectors to make sure they were all pluged in and it seems to have stopped missing but when i started it up, the smoke was quite bad (and white :dapprove:) but seemed to go away when warlmed up so am i right in thinking valve stems? and if so how much am i looking at to get it done.
i have some vids of it cold and walm that i will get up to show you.
also checked the oil and it was only half way up so if anything, it needed more in.

heres the vids.
when first started it was like this

any ideas?
oh and sorry for the crappy phone vids

it was but it seems to be ok now. went to west brom and back in it today with no smoke or scooby impressions so fingers crossed it was just an injector that had been knocked when changing the oil filter and when i was making sure they where all secure, i put it back the way it should be lol.

The smoke you were getting after the misfire had been fixed was most likely just all the unburnt fuel clearing that had collected in the exhaust system from when it was missing :)

started doing it again so i changed the coil pack and not only has it solved the problem but it seems more responsive now so thumbs up :approve:
