172 splutter hesitation around 2000 rpm

(I've searched and surprisingly can't seem to find a solution).

Over the last week or so this has got worse. Pulles fine up to 2k, splutters/hesitates/car shakes, then pulls fine up to the red line. Feel like a learner when pulling out of junctions or joining roundabouts.


Anyone else had this and sorted it? Neighbour mechanic said it could be what vauxhall (he's a vaux mechanic) call an EGR fault...

Car's on 100k, and had a new complete exhaust which I don't think is blowing about 6 months back. Had idle/start probs a while back and replaced the TCD sensor, TB and accelerator pedal and battery. All's been fine since.

no lights, was thinking coil pack myself. Water sensor? Where is that?

Coil pack/Spark plugs/Ht leads?

At worst it could be a faulty injector

fil was your fault just at 2k rpm? Could be leads, but could be loads of things clearly...

watch your watertemp gauge on the dash. Does this still read same as always ?

sounds like your car , when spluttering at 2000 revs but when giving it some throttle its fine up the rev-range, may "think" it's running cold because of a faulty watertemp sensor.

The car has a limiter on cold start, mine splutters and kangaroos when on cold at 2000 rpm.

sounds very much like another one's problem some time ago and i was right then, maybe now too

it gets upto halfway and stays there all day long. I've bung it in the garage, haven't got the time with work just now to be messin round with it. I'll report back

mine was doing the same sort of thing but mine had a misfire dusent sound like it was as bad as yours is tho. just to it to my mates garage and he put he scanned it and a fast fan code come up also a brake senser code a and a cruise controle code but mines a 172 cup they dont have cruisecontrole do they ? any ideas why this would come up if it dident have cruise controle. ?

Kangarooing? Loose Map sensor wire is another potential. Happend to me years back

garage say they can't find the cause. They reckon plugs. Where's the map sensor?

think, touch wood, i've sorted this. Went to halfords after work and picked up some leads that looked like they'd fit, as they don't stock rs leads, and whacked them on. Been out for a 15 min drive, and so far so good.
