172 Tuning

Basically my cousin wants abit more power from his 172 and he has a budget of £1200 what do you guys recomend? the car will be fully serviced etc before any mods are carried out and a dyno run to see power increases etc.

I'm not sure on how capable clio's are as ive not worked on one before im mainly into my jap stuff but have read these can be quite suprising , thanks in advance for any advice :)

If it's just sheer power gains he's after he's likely to be dissapointed tbh, unless he gets lucky. F4Rs don't generally respond that well to tuning, but you do get the odd one out that will give a half decent gain without spending £3k+.

If he wants more useable power however, RS tuner remap is a good place to start, fitting a 182 manifold will also give him a bit more power midrange rather than it all being in a big lump nearer the redline.

Most people on here go for improving the handling/braking before anything else.

you will find more info/advice using the searh.

i would say the first things to do would be slightly uprated (fast road) discs and pads, braided brake lines, fresh fluid, coilovers or fast road suspension setup, decent tyres.
no power increase but a much improved car.

powerwise. on a 172 i would say 182 manifold, uprated exhaust, espace v6 airbox setup, rs tuner, inlet matching.
not huge gains but it will rev better.

thanks for the fast replys well i always say a well balanced car is fantastic to drive compared to a car that has just shear power , i was hoping with the budget i could upgrade brakes , suspension and engine , obviously i'm not expecting 20 bhp from a air filter lol . i see a panel filter seems a better option than a open filter is the Ktec panel replacement any good? Also what about exhaust is the Ktec super sport system?
