172 v 182

Hi Im new here so bear with me !

Just curious ?

Why would you buy the new 182 over the 172 ?

what justifies the difference in price drop ?

does anyone have an opinion on this ?

for reference i own a one year old 172 and would be curious to see the argument?

thanks

Jessica

i think if you can afford a 182, then its a more refined car, if you look through the posts using the search facility you should find nuff threads about this, and Evo have a good piece on the 182 this month

welcome to the forum

Thanks for your greeting,

there is so much to read on here - excellent though :)

Im very happyt with my 172 but am curious as if im to upgraqde to the 182.

is it worth the loss on my year old 172 and the retail price of the 182 in comparison? or should i just "chip" my 172 to increase power and add a filter?

i previousl owned a 16v clio and 1.4 sport clio but i think renault have made the 172 in a different class compared to my previous experiences.

e.g k reg 16v clio was unreliable with clutch cables going all the time but my 172 has been fault free with the exception of the rubber on steering wheel needing replacing under warranty.

the drive of the 172 is very rewarding in my opinion but the driving position takes a little getting used to .

overall i was wondering whether its just renaults marketing to get us out of 172s ?

ive read quite a bit on the 182 and it is meant to be a slightly better car, than the 172 BUT i dont think it would be worth losing money on ur car.Id kill for a 172 as Ive only got a 1.4 rt alize! Had a shot of my mates 172 and it is totally different from my car, i need one!!

The wheelbase on the 182 has been extended and the handling is meant to be slightly better and more fun to drive. There is no cup version like the 172 had although there is a cup pack which i think has modified suspension and different wheels.

Im going up for a test drive in a 182 soon so i will give u my thoughts on it! Will ask one of my mates to take their 172 up so we can maybe compare cars on the motorway!!!

182=great car! And the only Renaultsport Clio you can buy at the moment for sensible money. Cant see the point in changing from a 172 though, going to lose a couple of thousand quid. Its not like a 182 is going to leave you for dead on a trackday (fingers crossed). 10 bhp makes it better, but its not worth losing thousands to upgrade, unless you were going to change the car anyway.

I suppose youd buy a 182 if you want a brand new car and a 172 if you want a used one, as 172s are no longer being made and theres no used 182s yet.

It seems pretty much the same car in looks performance and features. It is only a slightly improved 172 IMO. Certainly does not justify buying it if you currently own a 172. But if moneys no object, throw it on the tab!

If you want more power simple boltons are best place to start, its cheaper than buying a new car (If I were you Id wait for the new Fiesta RS whatever its going to be... looks v. nice and should go like a rocket).

Ye, as Tom said if you got a 172 keep it.. If I was buying a new car today and you asked me if I wanted the 172 or 182 I would ofcourse take the 182, it IS a better car as standard, but are essentially the same car even still.

A few tweaks to the 172 should see it on par or better than a standard 182. Everything can be improved on, it just takes money !
