A3s are good cars, but in std form they will not outdrive a 172.

I had a shot of an A3 2.0T quatro today and I'm sure my cousins Trophy was faster, both straight line and in the corners. I thought it handled pretty well for what it was, but not as fast. Pretty good build quality though.

172 will win unless the 1.8 it chipped ans stuff there much heavier and not as powerful (most of the time they do a few spec but even the quicker ones 210hp etc arn't that good thanks to weight).

how not a 172 cup 0-60 is 6.5secs 172 6.9-7.1secs by beaten three in the 1st 2days of gettin me car, 1 went flying past me on the roundabout cause i wasnt goin to write me new car off there was a corsa vxr behind me nd the a3 had to b at least 3car lengths behind on the straight

From changing my exhaust to a GDI full system i noticed a difference in how the car pulled throu the gears and then when changing my cat for a decat pipe there was even more of a difference no more flat spots and it just seems to want to pull hard all the time best 100 notes ive spent didnt notice much when changed to panel filter but i guess it helped

That website is so inaccurate and doesnt take into account many factors like gearing etc.

My friend has an s3 225bhp one and my car is slightly quicker apart from off the line, the weight really kills them.

A3 1.8T = Dull! A 172 is quicker and feels a whole lot more resposive and livelier than an A3. You will not have any probs shrugging him off.

Not driven a Mk1 s3 but had the TT with the 225 engine, the gearing is'nt the best and was a harder drive than my previous 172 but it was definately faster. I dont really rate the 1.8t engine to be honest, but only driven it in standard form. You had to be in 3rd to hit 60 and thats where your 1*2 will have the advantage, but im going out on a limb and saying that even a 150 A3 1.8t would pull from standard clios as soon as the clios are in top gear, just because of the turbo's torque. If the old s3 is anything like the TT then the clios will have no problem putting air behind it on the twisties

You can get the Audi 1.8T ECU remapped for £295....this will give you 200bhp and qtr mile times of about 14.0 sec @ 99 - 102 mph depending on drivers ability. Standard on standard the clio will be quicker.....just

The 1.8 T engine is 10 x more tunable than the F4R clio lump - if he puts money into his lump expect to be left for dead

Plus the more power you dial in to overcome the weight problem will reduce driveability.

Agreed - the clio is nimbler on the bends

The A3 1.8T runs a K03 KKK blower as standard - if you invest in K04 with an S3 manifold, bigger injectors and a larger intercooler + remap ( all done for £1500 ) 275 bhp is easily achievable. The engine has a power potential of 600bhp.

This is a video of Jordies Scirocco with a 1.8 T ( overbore with steel rods, forged pistons, gas , big blower running a 10.6 quarter mile ) the car is in excess of 500 bhp ... all from 4 cylinders and less than 2.0 !!

Thats totally fair enough mate...As a A/B road racer there isn't much out there that will offer as many thrills as a Clio Sport.

I drive a Cupra because I spend most of my life on a motorway so I wanted something big, sturdy and quick...

As much as I like the VTS and it pulls well to 60, it will not get anywhere near the S3, especially after 60.

Very true but still, VTS is not really in the same league. Power to weight doesn't count for everything. I have seen off a few modded VTS's in my Cup.

I dont have a vts, i have a 193bhp 172.

I'd be suprised if a 193bhp 172 is quicker off the line than a S3 due to its traction. Once rolling no doubt you should be able to nudge past due to power to weight...

At the end of the day yours is modded though. If you spend the same amount of money modding the S3 you wouldnt see it for dust!

No doubt 193bhp in a clio will make it very quick though...It must be a lot of fun
