172 vs.... yes...again

Alrighty...its about time and VW South Africa are eventually giving us the 132kW Golf GTI (right before the bring out the Golf 5)

And some of us are debating which is quicker, the 172 or the GTI?

What bhp and engine has it got? 180? 1.8T if so 172 by about .4 sec to 60

I just said, its the 132kW one, but yes its the 1.8T I guess 132kW = 180bhp

My uncle had a 1.8T Quattro A3 (180bhp), a rare sight. It was quick but the 172 is quicker!!!

But the NEW A3 180 Quattro has a 6 speed box , does the VW?

Just checked 0-60 is about 7.5, a whole .5 sec slower.

does it really matter???? it has a six speed box yes but i no wat i would rather have.. a skoda fabia 1.4 16v estate

In the Autocar I have in front of me right now its says 0-60 in 8secs and 0-100 in 21.3. That the Golf GTI anniversary which is the 180bhp version. Now that isnt going to faster than a 172!
