172 VVT Timing belt! HELP!!!

Hi all just joined, as ive just bought a 172 off a mate on a 51 plate with 30k on the clock, i got it for £500 as it needs a suspected new conrod, i've stripped the engine down ready to take off the head then realised it is a vvt engine, this is where i need your help, can anyone advise me on the best way of dealing with this problem, bearing in mind the car is on axle stands in my garden at the mo with all the engine in the boot lmao!

Might be easier/cheaper to buy a replacement engine mate? You certainly got the car at a very good price

Yer i thought that, im not sure where to start sourcing one from though does anybody on here have one for sale??

They appear on ebay quite regularly and are usually less than 500 quid.Could try somewhere like www.partsgateway.co.uk or breakeryard website etc.

why is the VVT a problem? bigger issue is it's non keyway'd
