172 Wheel Bearing

  Ph1 V6
had a droning noise coming from my 172 for a while and I'm pretty sure its the wheel bearing. Had Renault quote me about £260 to fix. Just wondered if anyone has attempted it themselves and how difficult it is?? The part is much cheaper from GSF.

Front mate. Was jst over a ton for the part and a bit more labour. Was gonna try K-tec for a quote tommorow.

Have you fitted it yourself mij29? If so how easy is it? heard I might need a garage to press it on the hub.

how mwchanically minded are u?? wen i did the ones on my rallye i just removed the whole strut/hub assembly and took it to my mates garage and he brayed them out then pressed new ones in.

you need 10 tonnes of force to press them in. My dad did mine put it int the vice and turned the vice handle with a 1m lone steel pipe and he was nackared doing it. it not a technical challenge really more of a physical gauntlyet if you dont take it to a garage

If you can get the hub off yourself you can save a lot of cash. Take the hub to a garage who have a press and get them to replace the bearing (should take them 10 mins) and replace the hub yourself. Bingo!
