172 wheels sizes & lowering

I have a 172 mk1 & i am planning to change the wheels.

it currently has 15" Rims with 195/50/15 tyres

What size is the best to upgrade to ? 16" or 17"

I wish to retain the performance & handling.

The next job will be to fit some lowering springs, how low should i go & what type are the best springs?

Any input will be appreciated

if you want performance and handling stick with the 15s, if not go for 16s (assuming youre not into styling because youll sell them in a couple of weeks)

not many springs available for the 172, but i believe other than coilovers the eibach sportline kit is among the best available, if a little hard, lowers about 30mm

Will putting 16,s on wreck the acceleration ?

I have noticed you can now get 195/40/16 tyres, these are a smaller diameter than the 195/50/15,s are these the right size to get ?

Whatever you do, get the springs fitted first, as your car will look daft with bigger wheels on the current springs.
