172 whurring noise

help needed,clio sport 172.we have a whurring noise coming from the rear right hand side of the car.the whurring starts faintly and gets increasingly louder then stops this only happens every now and then.sounds as if its a pump sucking in air ????.any ideas.cheers ian

If you are talking about the drivers side then that is where the fuel pump is located and if the sound is like a pump then you will most likely find it is the fuel pump making the noises. Lift up the back sit and you will see the pup housing, have a listen and if it's the fuel pump then you may need to get a new one maybe.
