which courses are you guys on about? I've looked into ARDS, but prices are adsent from what I can tell. For race licence you just need to do a test and pass a 20min session on the track. Not much tuition there to be fare. Can't work out if it only costs the price of the pack to do it either (£51)

Well this is a very civil debate ladies

I doubt there's many on here that have spent their hard earned on tuition (not just on track, road as well) as having something you 'physically get' for your money seems more appealing to most. It might be a good idea, but most would rather spend the money on the car, as they are interested in cars more than driving.

^ Couldn't have put it better myself, however I do believe that a small amount of £age spent can draw the best from the cars, then taking it to the track and coupling it with some tuition is the best of both worlds.

RenaultSport track days are fantastic for tuition, I get some at every time a go; the prices are silly!

It is cheap. I've taken advantage of that too, although some of the instrustors aren't that good apparently. Some are excellent, so its a bit hit and miss with RS days.

JAM Sport are in Northampton. I don't know of anywhere else Midlands'ish that does the matched inlets though.

got mine done at jam sport, very good service, no pissing around and well priced, cant go wrong...

It was the boss (Hugh) that I used. Brilliant. He tears your driving to pieces, but in a constructive, gentle way. Ie, he doesn't make you feel like an idiot. There's some basic stuff covered (looking further up the road, positioning the car etc) but also car control, balance, and you find yourself getting quicker and quicker as the day goes on.

Interesting read as I'm wondering where to go with my 172 and I don't particularly want to go down the cams route.

I've already stuck a K&N Panel Filter in it, but that was more for the usage and cleaning rather than buying a new one from Reno every couple of years.

So I'm looking at Matched Inlets, Remap, Exhaust and tidy Induction System (Being the V6 airbox) for a slight better running car and a slight performance increase? I'm only looking at making it a truer 170bhp rather than 160.

ARDS isnt the way to go if you want to learn, better off with a track day and tuition.

There are loads of race drivers that will tutor you for the whole track day, you can pay for their time to come along with you.

Something I think I'm going to get more of next year. Difficult to know who to use, good driver doesn't necessarily mean good teacher!

For extra driver tuition to be more of an advantage over a slightly more powerful car in public road conditions you'd have to be on the limits.

Track days can see a advantage but road conditions your not going to be quicker point to point, just safer

Not true. At all. Driving at 5/10 with correct technique, will be quicker than driving at 5/10 with poor technique.

No. Anyone that drives at the limit on the road is an idiot, being blunt. Without being at the limit, a more skillful driver will be quicker when talking a bhp difference of 10bhp. Fact.

I did the full day road course. Once you've started to get the balance of the car correct going into corners, it gives you more feedback, and becomes more enjoyable.
