182 alternator issues, mechanics/specialists advice.

So I've had my 182 for a couple of years now and tbh not too much has went wrong. However a few weeks ago, the battery went flat (battery is 18 months old) and wouldnt start one night. So got the multimeter out and cheked battery voltage (12.50v) but not enough to turn the car over. So i jump started the car and voltage was still reading 12.5v. I instantly assumed the regulator on the alternator was acting up and I needed a new alternator.

Second hand alternator arrived and I fitted it. Charged the battery with a mains charger. Started the car and terminal voltage read the expected 14.4v.

Car was fine for a week and the exact same scenario has came to light. Car wont start. When jumped the terminal voltage is reading 12v

My question being, is it a coincidence that two alternators have shat their pants or a further underlying issue thats causing alternators to fail? Im getting fed up f**king around with the car and the annoying aux belt setup.

Any help or thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.
