Right, Sorry for the late posting guys, but have been all over the bl**dy place this weekend! Went to see Fin on Saturday to get the Exhaust done, and I think its safe to say that an interesting time was had by all, lol! I did try to stay out of Fins way where ever possible, but that Aero System Fin put together is such a lovely looking system.
The system Fin built was pretty much the exact same as Daz's, just a little louder lol! We decided to leave the standard cat on, and simply build back. From the cat Fin decided it was best to go with 2 inline AR20's then stick with a Straight Through pipe to the Aero Turbine where the back box would be, and finish off with a 2.5" Slash Cut Tail Pipe. I agreed, and let him get on with it. Now im no expert, but the system itself seemed to be very straight forward (minus the baffling shrinkage part), and the quality was enhanced by Fin's Welding skills.
After that, we did a final check on the sound levels... and thats where the fun really began. Which ever idiot Frenchmen decided that them mounts where a good idea... deserves to be shot, they where truely awful, and completely useless. Fin made some rather sturdy custom mounts, which seemed to do the trick, until I took it for a quick spin and we found that for some reason the Exhaust was pulling down to the left, into the bumper. We did find a solution to the problem later after a couple of attempts... but after my incredibly long drive home, in the wrong direction, I found that it does still move slightly, which is rather odd. However, it does now seem to move back when its cooled down.
The sound levels seemed pretty bob on at the time, and exactly what I was looking for:
Tick over over was at about 70-71db
3000 RPM was at about 86-88db
and 5,500-6,500 RPM was around 95-97db
However, the drive home was quite bad, the droning nearly made me deaf lol! But thats what I would expect from a new exhaust tbh. After a long drive down to Manchester... and around Manchester about 50 times (Lost AGAIN), it did seem to start bedding down quite nicely. And when I did finally manage to find my way home, it was a damn site better.
As for MPG, I didn't really notice a massive difference tbh. Saying that though... I did seem to get a little more out of it... maybe 1-2 extra MPG. This is something which I will be watching more closely over the coming weeks though.
All in all, was an interesting day, with great banter. The system Fin built was excellent with superb workmanship, and it really is starting to settle down nicely now, and I will soon have a better idea on MPG increases.
Cheers Fin for your hard work, hope this ESSAY answers everyones questions, definetly money well spent in my opinion... and the car seems to rev so much easier now!
