182 bass gains

  ClioSport 182

Ive got the stock 182 ICE installation at the moment: Renualt speakers and HU (not sure who the manufacturer is) and Alpine 6 CD changer. Overall the setup is a little on the tinny side.

What would be my best way to get more bass into the setup? (answers of increase the bass volume on the HU will be dealt with accordingly!!) Could I get away with only changing the door speakers, or is the HU to blame, or a combination of both ...

Also, it would seem that the standard HU would be a target for thieves since you cant remove it every time you leave the car. Why hasnt it got a removable face plate? has it some other security aspect that I havent noticed?

Thanks for any help!

I think you will find they will nick a std HU. I know a guy who took std units & sold them to local garages, who would give him instant cash. Then the garages can make the car look more std & get more for it. ;)

Anyway the std unit does sound pants. I changed for an Alpine & the difference in quality is instantly noticeable.

Any recommendations for a decent HU which will ...

- Interconnect with the stock Alpine CD changer

- Interconnect with the display (the one with the clock + temp) - Not essential provided that it will still display the clock + temp after the installation. I assume that the HU will come with a nice display anyways.

- Interconnect with the control stalk on the steering wheel - at least for the volume.

- Involve minimial work (i.e not having to take the dash apart)

- ... and above all give me a good sound!!

Ill probably directly replace the front and rear speakers with some better ones of the same size. At the moment I dont want to be installing amps and subs. Therefore any HU leaning on the side of having a good internal amp would be better ...

Thanks for any help!

Great! The HU on the 182 is especially tinny and the CD changer can only interconnect to this particular HU. Looks like the two of them will be binned shortly and Ill have to invest in a decent HU ...!

Any good HU out here which supports MP3 on DVD (so I can do without a new changer)? Also any recommendations for front and rear speaker direct replacements. I hear that the tweeters are hard to get to and Ill probably leave them alone.

Thanks,

well if its a alpine cd changer then surely if ya get a alpine head unit then they should interconnect. With the dash display your not going to miss much as all it really shows is the radio station and cd track which you will be able to see on the display on most if not all aftermarket headunits now anyway.

Apparently this is not so. I have read this a few times on this forum that this is not the case. Even though logic dictates that it should be the case.
