According to EVO:

"best hot hatch ever"

Question is; are they right?

  172, Tiguan

Must remember to put mustard in ham sandwiches next time. Certainly adds to the flavour........

Theyve said this about a few cars now though...

I assume that this months Evo has a roadtest on the 182 then?! If so, is it a full test and are there performance figures?!

I dont think you can define these cars by using the word "Better"

"Different" would be a BETTER word to use.

Trying to compare them is like saying which is better larger or bitter? It all comes down to personal tastes.

Just my two peneth worth....

explain im confused with the lager bitter thing

Yikes how simple do you want this?

Its an example of two similair products that cant really be compared. How can anyone say which is better lager or bitter, all personal preference & tastes.

Its obviously gonna be better than a 172 or else what a waste of development.

Is it better than a williams though? Am i to take it that a 172 cup isnt as good as a williams?

Who knows - drive one and decide for yourself.

New cars quite often get lables like this but after a few years it seem to get forgotten and they get more critical of them.

I hope it is the new King as there is nothing really out there that I want at the moment - maybe the Cup but it seems to get varying reports and looks quite similat to a standard Clio.

Cant wait to read the review - what were its times like?

As good as it may be, I doubt the 182 move the game on in the way that the Williams did. But its not meant to - its an evolution of a very good hot hatch (although not a back to the drawing board revamp like the Willy). I doubt the 182 will be clearly the best of its day in the way the Willy is, simply due to the levels of competition that the 182 has in the like of the CTR, Cupras etc.

When the Willy and 16V were around they were basically the most hardcore pair of hot hatches: the 205 GTi was dead, the Mk3 Golf GTi was a pig and there were only a couple of "mega hatches" like the Cosworth and Delta Integrale.

The question really is in my mind: will it the best of the Mk2 hot Clios?

Regardless, Id love a yellow 182 with the Cup suspension.

Yes by the looks of the first review I fancy a 182 but I hate depreciation so Ill have to wait a few years before I will get one.:(

Just booked a test drive in a 182  If it really is a 5 star car, then, god help me, I might just be tempted.

Normally i would agree but those a phil bennets words.

It may be a resounding no but im interested to know why.

Probably best not to knock something before youve tried it. Okay, the wheels are...ummm...and the exhausts are....errrrr....but I like the sound of Renault really working on the handling, so Im going to give it a go before making my mind up . :devilish:

Yup, I agree with Rhys!

But I will be driving one soon... ;)

It will be down to drive at the end of the day and a driver coming from a 1.2 wont have a clue about pushing a Cup/172/182 to its limits for handling and 1/4 miles;) POKE POKE
