182 better than williams

Me too lager, but at the end of the day I dont think I could take the loss of buying a new car again. Am going to spend 1000£ on my Cups engine in the summer, now where did that 182 go;)

  VaVa

Yeah the money the big issue for me too chief. Wasnt bothered till I saw the pics in Evo.... looks ace.... the right blend of 172 and Cup, which is what I wanted when I first started looking at the Clio.....

According to EVO:

"best hot hatch ever"

Question is; are they right?

Question is: Can you tell Toms back? ;-)

poke the williams owners / poke the cup owners / anyone who might bite!

/y0z

Snap...

I had such a dilemma when I was choosing between a Cup or a 172, but if I knew about the 182 Id have gone for that!

Yeah your right it does. all 1.2 drivers have no idea how to handle a car.

Foolish thing to say imho.

But then...

Yeah you got it right, in the opinion of one writer at Evo it is.:D

That one writer is the current lap record holder for a production car around the Nurburgring.

Therefore i think we can establish he knows how to drive.

if the guy who wrote the report knows how to drive or not it will still never have the classic status of the williams

williams were built for a reason, 182 were built cus they gotta produce somethin to keep up with the market

In what respect does the Williams have classic status?

Ferrari 250 GTO
Ford GT40
Mclaren F1
Porsche 911
Mini
VW Beetle
Clio Williams? - Sorry no go.

However:

Peugeot 205
Renault 5 Turbo
Integra Type R
Clio Williams

  williams and trophy

going back to evo from many many moons ago.................

road test......

porches...tvrs a few other stuff(memory is fuzzy now) hehe ..........................oh and a williams clio

i think evry 1 of the tesing crew said theyd prefer to be driving the willy evry day........which is the classic????? and in which respect?

Read the article last night. The 182 seems to combine a bit of an old school feel with other qualities youd expect from a car built in 2004. I dont think there can be a better argument that the 182 is a better car. I guess well need someone to buy a Willy and a 182 to judge it in the handling stakes..

I defo want a 182 now though!

-Rob

Well, Im booked in for a test drive of a 182 at 14:00 on 13th Feb, so I guess Ill have some idea of whether it really is better than the Williams at about 15:00 on Feb 13th!

What would be a better package / which would you have?

1. A 182 with cup suspension (16k + a bit?)

2. A cup with RSport ECU, filter, decat and zorst (price 11k?)

For looks id take a cup (got to love those wheels and that blue)

For price id take a cup (4k ish saving)

For speed Id take the cup (better power to weight ration with those inexpensive mods)

For handling id take the cup (its lighter)

Can anyone explain why the 182 is a better car or a step forward?

or

Should the real question be: how many people have been sucked in by the successful marketing hype?

  Clio v6

Id take the 182 with the suspension adjustments, and the extra spoiler option, plus yellow paint, plus a sunroof, plus anything else I can add.

I like to know Ive spent as much as possible.

indeed

Never driven either of them.....so can only comment theoretically.

.....The 182 is a great example of how far weve come technology wise, with its combo of speed / handling / comfort. But im not sure its going to have that Old School Racer type appeal - that I personally love. Back in the day the Williams was a legend, its focus was pure raw hot hatch - aimed at a certain group of people.

It depends what you want. Purely based on what ive read - I would probably get in the Williams and think it was the car of choice better for me, because I like the race car feel, direct focussed handling etc....

I think the 182 will feel too similar to a 172 for me, with some adjustments of course. I suppose you could get the feel of a modern day Old School hatch (Cup) if you went for the enhanced suspension package etc...and gave it more power....but I think its the lightness of the Cup/Williams that partly gives it its feel....? Hmmmm.

A thread Evaluating the 182 / Cup, will be most interesting!!
