  Clio 182
Hi All,

As some of you may have seen in the intro thread. I have recently bought a 2005 clio 182 non cup in black gold. Its got 83k on the clock and the belts were done at 78k according to the invoices, so I should be in good stead. It spent most of its life in the Orkney Islands before ending up in Essex for the past 5 years original plate was YF05YHO not sure if it was anyones on here?

I had a 2004 clio 1.2 as my first car so have a sentimental attachment to phase 2 clios! I have just come from a 595 abarth competizione with all the trimmings as my weekend fun car, being in the Yorkshire Dales having a small car for B roads is great fun on the weekend when theres not cow s**t everywhere.

Pic of the Abarth - As a comparison the clio feels sharper and faster without all the lag from the turbos. Everyone goes on about how s**t the seating position is in a clio....drive an abarth!

Car came as standard but with a stainless exhaust system and sports cat, looks like either Pure / Ktec but it has no branding that I can see. Its a bit...loud.

Bad Bits
I have a knock coming from the rear drivers side, you can feel its loose when you rock the wheel stationary
Powersteering doesn't seem to be working at a stand still
Belt whine (could be something to do with power steering)
2nd gear sounds a bit rattly, but that might just be the resonance of the exhaust
Missing the front splitter
Paint is swirly and has a lot of badly touched up scuffs
Interior is grim, sticky buttons, gross seatbelts, badly tinted rear windows, generally gross
Drivers seat has a bit of play

First thing I did was get the 182 wheels off and swapped them for some 15x6.5 Turinis ET38 (I think) wrapped in Michelin PS3's 205/50/15 and its already transformed the handling.

Car is headed to the garage tomorrow for a once over (I am not good with a spanner, I drilled through my own finger putting my number plates on...). So I will update the thread with the outcome of that.

Nice car mate! Enjoy!

Btw whats with the suspension? Seems to be sitting pretty high.

Cheers everyone

Rear dampers are some cheapo OEM copy ones and springs look stock too. 15” wheels obviously add to the monster truck vibes.

I will eventually move to coilovers once I get stuck into it. I do like the way it rides over the bumps at the moment though. One of my big gripes with the abarth were the stock bilstein shocks were sooo crashy, rattle your teeth out.

Garage Check Over Update

Been in today and had a good check over and the good news is they said its very clean, no rust and no major issues. Power steering is apparently fine I am probably just used to the EPAS in my Volvo XC60 daily. Clutch is also fine, I just clearly can't drive.

Problems are:
  • Throttle pedal needs replacing
  • 2 wheel bearings need replacing
  • Headlight washers not working - Will be replacing with blanks anyway
  • Rear wiper motor is dead - not really bothered about it may remove and blank it off
Very happy to have a clean bill of health apart from these little niggles.

Next Jobs beyond these:
  • Get a spare steering wheel to get re-trimmed by royal
  • Missing the splitter - I will order a ktec/skoda fabia one
  • Strip out the rear, sound deadening and carpet, possibly a K-brace or strut brace
  • Its booked in to get a full detail and paint sorted at the end of march
  • Enjoy over the summer and see what breaks along the way!
  • Full service and replace all fluids when the MOT is due in September
Long term plan is replace anything that breaks with something uprated.

The chaps at @FrogJam Motorsport can help with wheel bearings, and fitting if you so wish. Also, North East lads. They have a website here https://frogjammotorsport.co.uk/
