182 brake question

Lee

Having a spirited drive home this evening I was approaching a roundabout and braking hard from a high (legal) speed. Pressure on the pedal was fairly even but also pretty hard. At first it was doing as expected and slowing, then all of a sudden it didnt seem to want to bite any more and felt like it had lifted a little, I pressed harded but the pedal just felt hard and didnt want to go any further, at this point I no longer needed to be braking.

Anyone else had this?

Ive just been out and really stomped the pedal a few times and they seem fine now.

I did also notice that when I press the brake pedal a few times it revs the engine. No bad thing as it keeps trying to cut out at the moment!!!

Probably all nothing but cant hurt to ask you lot.

Cheers.

ive noticed similar things. the first press of the pedal always feels too long then the lifting off and re applying feels where it should be.

had it checked out and aparently they all do that.....

I didnt have any issues with them at any track days last year. Spa, Silverstone, Brands and the Nurburgring they were fine.

Im going to do some heavy braking tomorrow on the way to work. If I get any doubts Ill shoot down the garage to get them checked over. I dont want to be worrying about them on Friday.

My 172 used to suffer fade though, which was odd. It happened quite badly when we went to Scotland last year. A few very big stops and the pedal was in the carpet.

the vaccum system is in a word sh*t

if that happens ive found you have to let off the pedal and then reapply

Lee, I think what you mention is not so much fade but brake fluid boiling (happened to me on a track, still breaking, but foot to the floor) - change you brake fluid.

As for the brake stopping working, there is a big thing going on in France at the moment. I was just reading a lenghty article in a French car mag yesterday. In essence they were wondering if the ABS could cause this to happen. They have had cases where the ABS kicks in and then when the wheel unlocks, it does not reapply the pressure. That happened to some meganes apparently and it is supposed to be well sorted now.
