  clio 182 cup
My 182 is in the garage as we speak having a full service and all belts and kits changed....
However my mechanic has just told me the dephaser pulley has play but he hasnt got the tool to change it?, Is this not the same tool thats needed to do the belt kits?

You should have taken it to a specialist..........
Does he have the Renaultsport cam locking tools? they're different to the normal renault ones........

I have now learnt my lesson! Renault specialist from now on it is!!!! Dephaser not being done today so will still sound like a tank! Timing will probably be out and it will all have to be stripped bk down and re-done at a later date to rectify the problem! Oh happy days!!!

Nightmare.

Leave it in bits and get a specialist to fix it, imo.

If the garage doing it aren't aware they need the specific locking tools, they won't get it right. For sure.

+1

Its completely pointless having the belt done now.....as they will charge you again to do the dephaser as the belts have to come off.

Don't pay! Tell him you want it taken to a specialist as he hasn't used the right tools and it's running as bad / worse than before... and that he can foot the bill.

Worth a try?

Well it all depends what you authorised him to do.
If you told him to put it back together without changing the dephaser then I think you'll struggle to avoid paying for it.

Still the fact he only found out he didnt have the proper tools once he'd taken apart worries me. It seems like garages just dont do their research! He obviously hasnt checked out a workshop manual otherwise he would know that he neeeded specialist tools, and when someone isnt using a workshop manual they will have no idea what torque settings they should be using!

dephasers have play in them anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much. That said, it sounds a bit dodgy if he can't change the dephaser.

What's the U shaped too on the other side of the engine? Thought that was the cam locking tool.

well apparently he has the tool to do the belt but not the tool for the dephaser (upon speaking to renault these tools kits are 3 parts) sooooo........apparently hes going to get the part and the tool kit from renault and restrip it all...do i trust him? only time will tell i guess!

well i did have an issue with him putting it back together and did request it was done before the engine went bk together, however, he has agreed to get the right tool strip it back down and get the part so will have to wait and see i guess!
