182 common faults???

  M135i, 118 coupe
Ok i know the 182 has lots of little faults which i tend to hear people complaining about up till now ive held mine back but just a few questions to be answered are these the usual 182 niggles or are they faults with mine that can be fixed?

Whistleing sound mainly when the car is being floored and its not window noise?
Exhaust rattles occasionally? (im on the blueflame group buy)?
When in a straight line the steering wheel isnt straight its slightly to the left and has started to get annoying?

Oh and what springs to get to lower the 182 without causing any problems with stuff in the back. Thanks

1) Temperature sensor problem (which you havn't asked about): the engine thinks it's cold, but it isn't. The best fix is to change the wiring loom, and clip everything in place so that no wires move in the engine bay.

2) Your whistling sound is probably induction-related. The air being sucked-in is obviously whistling. I suspect it's the airbox - the feeds connected to it aren't air tight as far as I can see.

3) The car is actually quite raspy, and this noise can be transmitted through the exhaust or heat-sheilds as far as I know. Sometimes it's the cat, sometimes the middle-silencer. Wait until the standard exhaust rusts tp pieces, and get yourself a stainless replacement.

4) Check your pressures/wear/tracking etc. I got that after a track-day, and it turned out to be my front nearside tyre - excess wear on the outside of it.

5) I'd recommend Eibach sportlines - only a small 25mm drop, but a nice gain in the handling department. I'd recommend uprated dampers with them, as they can be quite bouncy when fully-loaded.

6) Suspension knocking (which you didn't ask about): It seems that the top mounts/towers can knock from time to time. Whether it's a fault, or a 182 characteristic I don't really know. I've never bothered getting it looked-at after mechanics soiled my interior.

Disclaimer - I'm no expert. I'm only commenting from experience with my own 182 (approx 51,000 miles).

Warranty jobs so far @ 8500....

-Temp sensor
-Lambor(sp) sensor
-Exhaurst center pipe (still rattles like a good'un, blueflame soon!)
-Leaking headlight washer jet

182taunton- I have the whistling sound as well and another 182 I've been in did as well.
I've been told its either the injectors/fuel pump or the induction. I quite like it so don't really see it as a fault.
