182 (Cup Kit) Test Drive

Hi,

I've posted a few times, changed my user name but haven't really socialized a lot. Pretty bad considering this is a community forum. ;)

Was a Saturday morning, the test drive had been "pre-arranged", roads were dry and weather was pretty nice. Went with a friend and also the salesman, didn't want to push my luck as being 19 at the time felt lucky to be getting a test drive in the first place.

Took it on a dual carriage way, the salesman allowed me to put my foot down. 2 - 3k the really pulls nicely, 3 - 4.5K you really feel the acceleration and 4.5+ christ, I can only explain as a bullet, massively fast. The handling was just phenomenal and ride was very enjoyable. I do quite a lot of miles so comfort is important. The only thing I found that it doesn't have much sound dampening from outside but that really doesn't bother me.

Car was in racing blue with the Gordini stripes, the exact combination I'm considering. Will I get the wrong attention having those stripes though?

Love the colour, stripes arent for me though!! Can see why people like them. Like the heritage, just not all the others that have them.

To be honest, I loved them at the start but it bothers me less at the moment. Though I do like the idea of turning heads.

It may be the same as having:

"I'm an egotistical tw*t!"

Written on the car.

Some may view it that way, I don't know. Having said all that, I have a feeling I will just go with them, we'll see.

I've got a 182 Cup with the stripes. To be honest I don't know how much difference they make in regards to the wrong kind of attention versus a racing blue without stripes. I like mine, and would feel like it is missing something if I now went to not having them.

Some people will find them funny, others just won't understand and if you're lucky you may get a guy in a white van make some comments about thinking you're driving a viper (just happened the once)!

I'd say go for it!

I have a black one but everytime I see the racing blue with comp stripes I really like the look of it. If I never got a pre-reg'd one so fast I would have got the racing blue with stripes :D

Thanks for the replies, glad I'm not the only one that likes them.
Last question, is it true it goes faster with stripes? ;)

It does go faster - the air resistance and turbulance on the vinyl is less than painted metal, so it will have a marginal effect on the car's ability to cut through the air and hence go faster.

At least that's what I tell people. ;) It's undoubtably not true, but I've yet to meet someone who knows enough about flow dynamics or suchlike to prove me wrong!

i work on "flow dynamics" as you put it, your spot on though the mate the air resitance of that exact material is a contributing factor to another 2.2% downforce at 16 spindles per mile. this also contributes to the peacock theorem about power to wind ration and thermal patterns.

Hi mate, i have a 182 cup with the stripes also. I originally wanting racing blue without the stripes, but got a good deal on the car with stripes so took it.
I like them now, and think they look better than without.
It's just down to personal taste though, get them if you like them. I wouldn't say you get any more attention that any other 182

I was fortunate enough to get my test drive alone, dealer gave me the keys and said off you go, try not to be more than 45 minutes! Only ever driven a 1.2 before it so it blew me away, I bought it and the rest is history!

  Racing Blue 182
I get lots of attention with my racing blue with 182. Ypu get attention from scals and kids cos of stripes, but people turn around when they hear you coming anyway.

Get with stripes

If you do get the racing blue, get the stripes aswell they suit it well. Breaks the colour up from looking to much IMO.
