182 cup or leon cupra r

im new to this forum, basicly ive had me 6n2 polo gti for a year now and im looking for a change. ive narrowed it down to a 182 cup or a leon cupra r. two completly diffrent cars. ether i buy the 182 now or i save up longer and buy the cupra. how much would i be looking at to get a bit more power out of the 182? and would mods should i be looking at?

getting power out a 182 is like getting blood from a stone, so if thats your game then get the Leon.

however if you want precision handling, then a 182 will never let you down.

Depends how you drive the car.

If you want power figures to impress your mates and a car thats fast in a straight line the clios not for you.

If you want a car that is great fun on B roads or track then the clio is the choice.

As for more power, have you driven a clio? why do you feel it needs more power?

To get more power realistically youve gotta go ITB, Turbo, or supercharger. So your talking 2.5K for ITBs that will see 200BHP, 4K + fro a supercharger or turbo that will se any where form 220BHP upwards depending how much cash you have.

However it makes sense to improve the Brakes and remove weight to make clios quicker.

Leon for pace and mod potential. Clio for nimble handling.

Any talk of the Leon being a 'straight line car' is bollox! They handle very well, just not as well as the Clio.

My bro in law had an LCR and it could toast my Clio! Perhaps not as involving but imperssive all the same. The Leon is the better place to be but the Clio can't be beaten for bang per buck. Both great cars!

I was in a similar position. I narrowed it down to either a 182, Cupra or Civic Type R.

The main reason I didn't choose the Cupra and Civic was because everything was more expensive. Tax, insurance, fuel, tyres and brakes etc (for track days).

The Clio was very affordable for the same performance, so that's why I chose it. No regrets so far, love it

i came straight from an LCR to my clio, and that statements just wrong. the leon was marginally quicker on the move, especially after about 60 but corners it was no where near the clio. its a big heavy car. its not for throwing about, can be made to handle slightly better with coils and arb's but standard a clio would leave it.

its a good cruiser if your doing fast a roads / motorways etc but for when you want a good drive its a bit boring.

It's always going to be down to the driver...a well driven Leon will leave a Clio...same rules!

Anyway, no point in going down this route. 90% of Clio drivers don't get close to their handling limits so why not get the faster car?

Have a good drive in both and see which you prefer.

The way I see it, the clio is much more fun, it will go round corners faster, cheap to buy and to run.

The leon is better suited for the motorway, more refined, with more tuning potential to go fast in a straight line.

I used to have a 172 cup and now have an audi tt at circa 280bhp, the tt is basically the same car as a lcr underneath only with haldex.

I would go for the clio personally, but if you're sitting on the motorway munching the miles everyday it would without doubt be the lcr (or something else, 330ci etc)

read my posts, im not disagreeing, i owned my LCR for two years, but its not the same type of car!! a well driven leon, against a well driven clio down the same road (so long as its not a 6 mile straight) the clio would get the better of it. im not turning the this thread into a this is better than that discussion, im giving my personal experience from two years driving each.

you cant just tell the op to get the faster car saying its the lcr, when its obviously not. it comes down to what he's going to be using it. if he wants a fast cruiser get the lcr, if he wants fun and enjoyment from his car get the clio. simple as that.

And what are you telling the OP? I'm saying the opposite, from my experience. In everyday driving, I'd say the Leon is the faster car. Tracks and B-roads, perhaps not. And you will get fun and enjoyment out of a Leon.

I've owned a 172, 182, LCR 225 and now a 197.

Clios out handle the Leon easily. No argument there.

i cant comment on the LCR as iv never been in one, but there a black one on my road, and it looks like a flash motor for a standard car.On the other side most people on here are keeping their clios longterm, including me
