182 Cup or Trophy

  Clio 182 Cup
This being my first post, I'm considering either a 182 Cup or the Trophy. Hopefully with have one in the next few weeks. Is it worth the extra cash to get a Trophy. I'm not intending to undertake track days but you never know. Are the Sach Dampeners perhaps too hard for the road. Probably need to drive a Trophy as I've driven a few Cups. Just wanted to see what the forums view was.

Cheers,

EC

If you're not doing track days, then the trophy is pointless. Unless you have a particular need for recaros or you are overly concerned about depreciation.

I'd say the trophy is perfectly setup for our roads and if I was going back to a 182 I would have one over the cup.

The extra money you pay for the trophy you will see when you sell anyway.

If you don't like the red, go for 182 with cup packs over the normal cup.

Utter tosh, Have you driven a Trophy. There's a reason the Trophy was 2nd in the Greatest Ever FWD car shoot out in EVO. The Trophy wins hands down IMO, plus it will hold its value better. Win Win situation.

I've owned both the options you're considering. I won't even bother addressing the fool that feels the road optimised trophy is pointless unless you go on track.

IMO, the 182 with cup packs is more fun than a trophy (standard) on track, it's a bit more adjustable.

If you can afford it, get a trophy. I've driven plenty of nice cars, the trophy is in my top 3. It's just awesome, awesome fun.

You'll get some prat telling you it's a bad idea because the dampers need rebuilding every few years. What these fucktards seems to think is that a 182 has magic dampers that never wear or needs replacing. Ignore them. It's a 182, plus 20% more fun.

Either that or a Mint 172Cup. If i were buying again those would be the only two i'd consider.

Ok, maybe pointless was a bit extreme, but is it worth having the adjustability etc. For a road car? Unless you're a particularly fast road driver?

182 with cup packs gives a lot more flexibility with colours, extras etc etc.

Depends what he wants. I just figured, if he's not at all interested in doing track days then he probably wouldn't be hooning around the b roads all the time either.

Clearly has an interest, otherwise he'd be looking at a diesel fabia. In that case the trophy is the better option if he can afford it.

trophy if you can find a good one for decent money.
just budget for the dampers to be overhauled, not to mention the belts

it's a bit of a strange one...The Trophy is a flawed gem, looks great on the exterion, colours debateable, but it's a pity it didn't get the xenon's and rear bench etc...Its a thought process that never made sence to me. I'd still have one over the 182 tho. Both 182FF imo is outshone by the R27, not sure if you can stretch to that!. A truely brilliant hot hatch!

Fair enough. I didn't intend to annoy anyone!

There's just a whole lot of people who want a 1*2 who want to have the odd stab with their right foot in a straight line and nothing much more.

So realistically, you have to drive a trophy and then decide for yourself.

Instead of worrying about sat nav, whether you can plug your iPod into the stereo or redundant diffusers, take a look at the Trophy: it’ll take you to the shops to buy all your heart desires; it’ll squeeze in four adults for a short journey; it’ll do everything that any other car can do. But best of all, you can point the bonnet at a blinding B-road and it’ll remind you of what really matters. As per PistonHeads.

IMO the 197 is a limp fish, your better off going the whole hog and getting a 200cup.

I had 182, the Trophy , then back to a 182. The only thing I didn't like about the Trophy was the colour, It feels a lot more special to drive, and the seats alone are worth the extra money. Buy one with Dampers and belts done if you can. For me, there wasn't much point having the trophy, the 182 (with cup packs) is plenty for my needs I didn't plan on doing any track days, and rarely pushed the car to its full potential. Plus BG is a better colour imo.

I am aware of all that. cheers!

However, I will bet my jewish foreskin that the 197 feels closer to the 200 than the 172/182 does...it's far more robust and "I" enjoyed driving it, moreso than the older Renaultsport models.

This was exactly the point I was making, the trophy, as good as it may be, is pointless unless you're going to use / appreciate the extra performance.

Trophy if you are staying standard.
182 FF with cash leftover for servicing and a few choice mods would be my opinion.

The Trophy is specifically designed for the british B-Road! if you want to modify it then get a 182 cup, if not then stump up and get a Trophy

This is what it boiled down to for me too. The 2k or so I would have saved buying a cup-packed 182 would have gone straight on recaro's, turini's and decent coilovers anyway.

Haven't driven any other 182 so can't comment on how it drives compared to mine, but have had no regrets whatsoever since buying the Trophy, it's a very capable car and great fun.

After owning a trophy, and now owning a 182 cup.
There is only about £1500 difference between the two (Same mileage, FSH etc),
If you can afford/warrant it, go for the trophy every time.
Suspension is just awesome,
Seats are full of win,
Spoilers better ;)

  BG 182 FF
I've got a 182 with cup packs and I love it - it's an amazing drive and endless fun - but I just know I'm going to end up spending money on Recaros and coilovers! SO if you've got it spend it!
