Clio 197
I've had my blueflame decat fitted for a few days now.
Initially, I had it fitted without the Green panel filter, and it made a little difference. It had a nice rasp, and a little more at the top end. The 5k kick had disappeared, and I was worried about a loss of power.
Once I added the panel filter (which I have also had on the car alone, with no other mods), I could feel the difference.
Previously, my car would die after about 6500rpm. Now it has a lot more to give, and keeps on going to the limiter. Economy has recently taken a dive (as I've been ragging the t*ts off of it), so I can't commment on that until I get a normal run out of it.
From cold, it pops and rasps quite nicely, and soon settles to become ordinary sounding when driven sedately. Over 3k, when flooring it, it has a lovely rasp to it. It sounds mean between 5-7k (not louder, just more like a sports car IMO).
The car feels nice 'n' torquey & smoother. I've found that I'm hitting the limiter quicker than than before... I wish I could get it on a rolling-road to see exactly what's happened. 5th gear at 80MPH is better than before, indicating a bit more torque.
For a total price of £100, (pipe + filter) I'd definately do it again. I'd say the gains are about 2-3%, but the whole experience improves as a result.
Now for the questions:
1) I've heard stories of pops and flames (from de-cat), however I havn't noticed any from inside the car. Is the middle-section taking this away? Does it even matter?
2) Why do my exhaust fumes STINK so much... I guess the CAT has been masking this? Can one tell if the fuelling is right from the smell?
3) Why has my toxic fumes warning light not come on? I hope it doesn't, however, I would have thought it would come on as I've done 250 miles or so.
Love,
