182 decat on a 172????????

  Clio Sport 172
Will a decat for a 182 fit on a 172?

There a loads on eBay that say they are for 182's but will they go on both??

Mmm I think it would be cheaper to go to some exhaust specialist and make him weld a pipe to your OEM cat.
Or get a 182 manifold

BTB do a 182 Cat Mod.

I got one the other day. Their work is superb.

Cheers guys, yeh I hear that slapping on a 182 manifold gives a small amount of BHP too....... Or is that just a load of balls?! Is a 172 manifold and a 182 manifold a straight swap?? And what sort of HP gains could I expect from doing both of the above??

theres speculation about gains on the mani cos 172's is better for low down power and 182's is better for top end. having owned both id def say theres more of a kick in the 182 like going from black to white where 172 is like grey to black so to speak. think there is a kit to change a 172 to 182 mani. its not exactly a piss easy job either. ask 1 of the specialist they would be able to explain better.

Not enough to warrant the cost.

Changing the manifold for a 182 one is not so easy, you got to remove the ARB and there isn't much room to work around.
Plus, if you have one of them without the "dent" it will knock on the ARB, it's reccomended to fit the powerflex bushes for the dogmount and to set the engine mount to make the engine sit as much forward as you can, so the manifold stays a bit higher.

I'm not sure about bhp either, i had a few exhaust configuration:
When i bought it: 172 mani, a silenced decat (very poor and heavy) and a remus DTM catback (ugly and very heavy): the car was fast and sound wasn't bad and non intrusive, but I hated the looks and the exhaust was so heavy it needed a second mount and broke both of them.
Then I bought a k-tec superstealth (the mild steel black one), I thought it would be as loud as the remus or less, but in fact it was louder...at least a lot lighter!
I had a bad resonance inside and I thought it was the fake cat, so i removed it for a decat. Sound changed a bit but wasn't any louder or quieter...
I noticed that the car was slower then when I bought it, and acceleration times confirmed it...so much for all that money spent!
Then I found a good deal here for a 182 manifold and a 182to172 decat, so I went all out and fitted them, plus a minicat for the lambda sensor.
The car became as fast or faster than when I bought it (with 100ron fuel i did the best acceleration times ever), both at high and low revs, sound was great.
The only problem was the smell and the engine sound a bit rough.
Finally I found a 182 sports cat with low milage here, a bit of cut and weld using a piece of the old fake cat to connect it to the catback and it was done.
I can tell that the car runs very well, i removed the minicat for the lambda without any warning light turning on, no more bad smell and the sound is a bit more refined.
It' still a bit too loud on long trip, so I plan to change the catback for a Supersprint 182 lookalike, much better quality and sound and I like the looks of the dual 90 mm exits.

now I run 182 manifold, k-tec (aka brain) sports kat and a superstealth k-tec exhaust (will switch for a Supersprint 182lookalike one in the next months). I bought it with 1

ARB? You mean subframe. Also thats rubbish about the dent. I bought my 182 mani years ago now with a dent but had it taken out and it never knocked once in about 70 odd thousand miles use and mounts which had covered 120k.

Its only worth it if you can get it done cheap. The performance ''gain'' is bugger all really. Slightly more pull mid to top end thats it. One of the biggest reasons to fit one is it takes away any hassle messing with the cat

I'm pretty sure it's the arb! I had knocking on fast gearchanges at high rpm even with the 172 manifold, with the 182 mani (dent-less version) it was almost constant even at low speed you could hear it, only the purple bushes and some work on the engine position cured it.

The engine mount was ok but the gearbox and the dogbone were worn. Anyway, without the dogbone and with the engine sitting normally there's less than 1 cm of space.
