182 - flashing coolant temp warning light...

Sat in bit of on/off traffic today, nothing too major - then the coolant temp warning light started flashing.
Never seen this before in nearly 11 years of owning the car..
Car felt/sounded normal, temp gauge was normal, coolant level is just under max - was serviced a month ish ago.
Any ideas of possible causes?

I wonder if the issue is false reporting? It seems strange that a coolant problem would arise in March - unless it had dumped out a load of the stuff beforehand?

Does a diagnostic check bring up any error codes?

^ I dunno, I was in traffic but then still seems weird as I've been in far worse before and not had any issues. I've not had it checked yet, is due for MOT so will prob stick it back in Renault to check it out at the same time.
