182 gearbox problem - what do i do

Had the problem since new pretty much. If you put your foot down in 4th then change into 5th it crunches no matter how much you slam the clutch down.

Done nearly 8k miles now. Really cant be arsed taking into Reno, was thinking of waiting till 12k service and telling them then. Just worried if i leave it to long they will blame me for the problem. Think another guy on here had similar problem and they replaced the whole gearbox.

Take it in or wait till service ??

take it in mate. they may order the box and tell you to return after they get it.

should be done in one day id imagine.

That is what i did last time. complete ball ache!

Took the car in, had a problem with the cat but they had to order a new one. So then i had to book more time of work and shell out again for insurance on the courtesy car.

when im changing gear i can feel a light cluck through the clutch.

I have the clunk noise when changing into first.... IS this a problem by any chance??

Ive had the same problem on my 172 when going from 4th to 5th, doesnt happen everytime, dealer as usual couldnt recreate the fault, Ive having a couple of other problems with my gearbox but all the dealer has said is that theyre normal despite the fact it never had the faults when I bought the car!

ive only just had my first experience with dealers and guess what, YOU were all right about the way they treat you. Oh well, just have to keep nudging them and hopefully theyll give way at some point... BREAKING POINT

The gearbox will be f*cked, its quite common, theyll swap it under warranty...

My brand new Cup had a gearbox swapped in the first few weeks, it was diagnosed as needing one after about 400 miles and I was running it in gently too!!!

Was going to have it looked at on saturday while it was in for service but it doesnt do it now!!

Seems fine?!?!? Could it have loosened up ?!?

Hmmm, the other when i was flooring my 182 when i changed from 3rd to 4th it crunched and i am definatly sure the clutch was fully depressed........

If it crunchs when you change gear quickly its normal! Im on my 2nd box and this still happens, quick changes and crunch, does it ocassional on normal changes from 3rd to 4th an all, wouldnt worry about it tbh, if it goes into gear alrate but just makes a noise, live with it, if you take it in under warrenty, reno are likely to fook more things up dropping subframe and fitting new box.

5th gear is a different bit of the box so there can be problems going into 5th.

Id say get it back to Renault as well though. Quite a few boxes have been fixed/replaced under warenty.

a 172/182 box should never crunch no matter what, its a new car !!!

when Andy @ GDI did the GTT conversion on my Clio, the gear change was VERY smooth and precise , and thats a 15 year old gearbox !
