182 in Evo’s Fast Club 2004

Anyone seen the latest issue of Evo, has the Fast Club of 2004 in which they have included the 182.

They do a series of tests from slalom to 0-100-0. There are a load of super cars and then the 182 is proping them up (although they have a focus Zetec to put them in perspective against a normal road car)

The 182 gets blown away in all the tests except the slalom where it performs quite reasonable but its a credit really considering the cars its up against -

Gallardo, Porsche GT3 RS, SL600, Caterham r500, DB9, 350Z, TVR T350C, Monaro, Cayenne Turbo, EVO 260 and Elise 111R.

Definitely worth a read, very interesting! 182 was praised on its handling ability and also on braking, very good performer with no fade! They also said they would like to see the clio engine in the Elise if they could fit it in as they loved the power band. One thing that surprised me was that on a the banked circuit they only managed to get 134mph out of it rather than the renault 139 figure (although they did say that normally you can add 1mph for every 10 mph you are going over 100 on a banked circuit to what it would be on a flat surface which would equal 137-138 so not far off)

i didnt even know it was out, just happened to see it in the petrol station last night, didnt realise it was brand spanking new!

Its a really good article and is spread over about 10 pages!

They chose the 182 to represent the hot hatch collection because they believe it is currently the best hot hatch on sale. Nice

Its a very surprising car and this is why in bigger and better company people like mitchy and the likes dont believe any of the tales we post sometimes.Dont forget the cup posted the same time round bedford 1.7 miles as the m3

Just had my copy through the door

Overall the clio does well in the presence of big competition, but what suprised me most was the fact that it beat the evo on the slalom section along with the tvr 350,DB9,350Z and to top it off the gallardo.

Now how often do we hear people say never ,no way and thats impossible the guy wasnt trying in his subaru.

This test was done through a series of 8 cones 75ft appart and whilst im not trying to say the 182 beats a gallardo in all aspects it beat it in this discipline,so in other driving tales whwere people say i had him in the twisties or whatever then just maybe they werent that far off.

So for it to beat all these cars including the evo 8 shows how good clios are.If renault didnt build the 16v,williams and 172s wed all be worse off for it,some people have tried running down the clio range on here in recent times and i think this sets the record straight. We are not just a bunch of kids driving pumped up shopping cars.Yes we are the underdogs sometimes but that in turn can make us giant-killers.

Im proud anyways...

Regards,ian:)

iv not read it yet but im hoping to get a copy!:)

and to add to the above post it must also say something about how good the 182 (etc) does infact handle if you know what your doing (not that i do ofcourse ehehe ) and is not the heap of crap some people seem to have it down to be

i subscribe to EVO and its very rare that i get the latest issue through my door before the newsagents, still waiting!
OMG same here, right off to complain!

Just spoke to EVO

They DO NOT guarantee delivery before it is out in the shops and it is TOUGH if you get it a few days later as they simply rely on ROYAL MAIL which we all know are about as effective as a chocolate tea pot

Shhhh. Dont mention the 182s 0-60 time of 7 seconds.:devilish:
why is it that some cup owners persist in trying to ruin decent threads! This WAS a general discussion about how good RenaultSport Clios were and you have to turn into into a 172 Cup vs. 182 Cup Pack thread!

WHY?

If you bothered to read the article though you would know that most of the times for the challenges were posted either in wet or damp conditions and not many of the cars actually reached their full potential because of the conditions.

Clio doing very well there with stiff competition!

Just shows that a light wieght, small car with wheels shoved in each corner is a great mix for a nice handling car

As a cup owner Id have to agree, cup would have got 9 secs with me at the helm w/o its traction control;)

The Lotus Elise was originally intended to use the Renault F7 series of engines (as in Clio 16V & Williams) - so BenR tells me. Renault pulled out when they got the go-ahead for the Spider though.

It says in the article they would like an elise with a 182 engine because of the great feel of power from low revs

Lotus decided against it because the FP was too heavy and Renault wanted too much per engine. Just think, if they did have renault engines, the wealth of tuning parts for them would be bonkers.

just read this after picking evo today, v interesting. evo write some excellent articles, the fast fleet about the 6 series was funny its a shame all journalism isnt that good, also interesting (considering the other thread that shall not be named) to look in the back and compare the recorded performance figures for the cup and the 182, them being almost identical, interesting also to see the comments on the handling considering the major revisions on the 182.... only 3 weeks to go now to get mine, cant wait ..
