182 mani fitting-Expert help required

  ValverInBits
Ok, i've got a 182 manifold in the post, I've just got a few questions with regards to fitting.

  1. I understand the subframe needs to be dropped - can the 172 manifold be removed without dropping the subframe (measuring up for a custom decat pipe)
  2. Bit pikey i no BUT - is the standard cat (172Ph2) short enough to be chopped up and modified to fit the gap between 182 manifold and 172 exhaust system? (MOT purposes)
  3. Where do you put the axle stands under the car when dropping the subframe?
  4. I am planning to do an engine out job, to do Cam Belt, all engine mounts and clutch. Should i wait till i have the engine out or will i still need the subframe dropped in any case.
  5. Wheres the best place to buy heatwrap?
Sorry for the essay guy but any help will really be aprechiated.

Axled stands go behine the front wheels, on the jacking points along the side sills where the side skirts are. Im pretty sure youll have to drop the sub frame to fit the new manifold, not hard to do though.

If using heatwrap make sure to protect the new manifold with heat temp paint, stops it cracking over time if tape gets wet it holds water this can cause rust/cracked manifold on joins etc ..

iirc , ppl would ceramically coat their manifolds before having them fitted , or heat wrapping them was also mentioned

I've been told by some other people that this is a load of crap, but TBH, better safe than sorry, so ill give it a coupla coats.

Anyone know the best place to buy heatwrap?

1. Yes. Should be easy enough although taking the plemium (sp) chamber off will help access even further.

2. Pushing it. 172 cat pipe is curved up from memory. Size a pipe you need is roughly 12 - 15 inch area to fill the gap.

3. Chassis legs

4. Do the whole 182 mainfold conversion when the engines out. 2 minute job then

5. i got mine from Motorsportworld. 80 odd quid at the time. Easier to fit than folk make out on here as long as you have the correct ties.
