182 manifold gasket

  Ly Megane 230 F1
my exhaust is blowing somewhere and is causing the whistling sound but i cant pin point the leak so i was just going to replace all gaskets, clamps and sealant from the head to the backbox.

question i have is after reading posts about removing a 182 manifold and reading that the subframe has to come off..is it possible to undo the manifold nuts and get enough room to remove and replace the gasket without dropping the subframe?

thanks :)

Are you talking about a whine sort of noise, or an actual whistle?

Mine makes a whine sort of noise, and ive heard a few other 1*2s doing it too. not sure if its meant to or not...

Knowing my car, its probably not meant to haha

Have read loads of threads on blowing exhausts dude. Would appear that most people get blowing from the cat to manifold gasket. If your gonna try that get a proper Renault one, as pattern ones are pants.

Im going to look at it today but im going to replace all gaskets and clamps anyway as it wouldnt hurt and hopefully itl help

Alright no bother, I need my mani-cat one done too.

You know, you shouldn't be in the higher revs anyway :p

its annoying! when you start it up when its cold it sounds like its blowing bad then when it warms up it doesnt sound bad at all untill its in the high rev range with some load on it.

manifold gasket is about £7 off memory, and yes you can change it without dropping the subframe, however it gives you very limited space to work with and ideally
you'd want to clean up the faces of the head and the manifold
