182 Manifold on 172 Cup

Ive tried searching the forum for the answer but to be honest ive got myself a little confused.

I want to change from a 172 cat to a 182 cat for future ease of changing.

Ive read plenty about 182 manifold plus a decat link pipe to marry up with the 172 back section but I have bought a 182 manifold and 182 sports cat.

My question is will the 182 manifold and 182 sports cat fit to the 172 back section or will I need and additional link pipe? If I need a link pipe where do I get it from or is it a bespoke/ custom made job?

Hi Karl,

No, it won't fit. The 182 manifold comes down a lot further than the 172 manifold does, therefore you cannot use the standard middle/cat sections, you have to get the modified section to marry the manifold and the exhaust.

I've got the 182 manifold on my 172 Cup, I had to use a joiner pipe/decat to marry the manifold to the rest of the 172 exhaust.

If I fitted the manifold and cat would it fall short enough to get a link made and fitted? I can see me filing this with the rest of my "bad mods" ideas lol

Where did you manage to get the tyres from? What size? Mine only did 1 sprint so plenty of life in them yet. Think I might sell my track wheels though to get more 15" pro race 1.2's as spares with a couple of different tyres for the back.
I was hoping to stay standard but new regs mean I'm definitely in 1B next year.
I hoping to put a rear arb on it and a few other bits too.

I just need to sell my 205 gti to fund it all.

16" off good old ebay. Supposed to have 3-4mm on them (yet to turn up) so will last a while hopefully. Yeah saw that new rule so should make 1b very competitive next year.

Yeah I think 1B will be a big class, just need to read up on the regs to see what I can do/change.

I'm going to register for the longton sprint and hillclimb championship I think.
