182......mpg question

  LY 200
Iv read people saying they average 30-32 or 32-34 mpg on there clock.......How often and drastically does the reading change??

Since iv had mine its rarely changed tbh...........I think iv been gettin 34.6 mpg for the last month or so!!! Lol

Thats not saying it hasnt changed as i used to get 32 mpg but its a very slow rise or decline in point ones. Is this correct or is my mpg reader not reading right?

Cheers

Jay

  Shhh
Depends how often you reset the mileage thingy, it works out the mpg over the mileage recorded in the computer, not actual true mpg..

i reset mine every time i refill, which i once a week. i average about 33. once i thought i would see how much i could get, and drove like a granny and got over 40 lol. Then a boy racer overtook me and it dropped to 20 lol.

I haven't reset mine now for a few fill ups (used to every fill up when I first got mine a few months back). It's settled on 30/31mpg now but like the Alias said, not totally accurate.

Last few tanks i've been doing around 29mpg (mostly short journeys, some DC) and it don't sway much from that nw so i've just left the trip alone. Only reset the mileage one now.

I averaged 45mpg last weekend which I thought was pretty good for a 2 litre sports hatchback:D

Oi oi Roy theres no need for that is there now!? ;)

I think il try resetting mine and see what it does.........I didnt think a constant 34.6 was right!!! Lol

i reset mine the other week, was going up the M6 at 90mph and reading 45.7mpg yea right - any more jokes lol

Hmm i thought it reset anyway on every refill. Average for me is ~ 33 and missus is bout 36 :p altho managed 45 on motorway coming back from wales during 6 weeks hols with no accoustic valve and a nice shiney new warranty exhaust .
Ahem did worry me when i 1st got it tho and was doing about 20 mpg and going thru tyres rather quick - glad i calmed down now

^^^Obviosly too much cannage there then ;)

I dunno why they vary sooooo much..........I hardly ever use mine, when i do its usually shortish journey, drive it hard every now and agen so it doesnt make sense!!!

I reset mine everytime i fill up. Normally I average around 31mpg but when doing long distances get around 37. This week im getting 27 and im not sure why as im not driving any different to normal, just doing the normal drive to work

I did'nt reset mine for the first year of ownership and it was 28.something.

Reset it at every fill up now 27-29, still not seen over 30. Only use the car for fun though.

Well yeah, all about how you use it. My normal journey is 20 mile trip to work where i won't go above 65mph. If i am really religious i can see high 40s.

Hehe i'm lucky, my car never sees cities, and my local towns are not exactly grid locked so if i'm hammering it get about 35mpg driving normally about 38-40mpg

I rarely see the right side of 30 in mine. I know it could do better, but, B-road blasting mixed in with some urban driving for good measure is never going to be the way to go for fuel economy.

Sorry for being the sad one, who actually calculates the MPG, but bear with me. Last month noticed the computer reading creeping up to eventually 37.6MPG, thought that wasn't bad. I'd done 359.8 miles & went to refill with 'V-Power', got 47.39 litres to the brim, now there's no way in the world that equals 37.6MPG, the true actual economy was 34.5MPG, i know that may not sound a big difference but in real terms thats more than 30 miles difference between tanks of fuel, so i could have ran out. I'd done lots of shorter journeys on this tank, by the way, i do like to drive it fast as it was designed!
More positively refilled last week, travelled 381.4 miles, stood at the pump for nearly 10 minutes & could not get any more than 38.69 litres in, computer stated that i had achieved 41.3MPG, I thought brilliant, but the true actual economy was 44.8MPG!
This last figure was helped by a longer run, 130 mile round trip.
My points is to not treat the computer reading as being accurate, it's usually way out for the MPG.

I've found over 71k miles that mine consistantly over-reads by approx. 3 mpg.

It says 38, true figure is 35. It says 44, true figure is 41. It says 14, true figure is 11 (trackdays only ;) )

I'm sadder still - I'm an accountant by trade, so working out actual compared to trip-meter-calculated mpg figures is something I've always done for every tank.

You need to leave the trip some time to get a truely accurate reading I'd say 500 miles minimum I leave mine for a few k before resetting (last reset was when the trip reset itself after 10,000). I did calcuate fuel burn against what the computer though I'd burned and it was accurate to half a percentage and that was over 30k or so and the extra half a percentage could be explained away. The trip should be very accurate as it ECU itself knows how much fuel is injected and that calculates the mpg etc.

Remaps etc can mess with it but its should be spot on if you leave it work it out.

If you want an interesting thing to note the trip milage is different that real milage mine was about 20 miles out after 72k.

41mpg on the 182...

on a midnight drive up to loch lomond...very fast road..

but sat all the way with cruise control on at 57mph...

I get around 32 normal usage (just weekends really, to and fro from golf club and the odd A road). I've had 40 mpg over 500 miles once on a return trip from Dover->Grimsby.

There's a 30 mph limit through some roadworks right near the Shell garage by me and I've seen 57 mpg after reseting and driving through there in 5th. A couple of 5K rpm blasts soon sorts that out though..

Like othes, I find it over-states the mpg and the true value is lower. I've also had a couple of times where the computer has gone a bit weird, and the red light has come on even though the guage showed a quarter of tank. Problem fixed itself after refilling each time.
