182 much faster than a 172

  MINI JCW

I cant believe hes asked you to prove it!!!

By the way the original thread was whether the 182 was faster than the 172 not the 172 cup

When the 182 is run in i wouldnt have though there would be much in it

The 182 and 172 cup 0-60 times (done by mags) seem to be about half a second quicker than the standard 172

because i am calling his bluff, i dont believe he actually has both, thats why!

182 sport is comparing the 182 to the 172, its only 172cupnut who has butted in;)

agreed between 182 and cup (but there would between a 172 and 182)

mate, im not discussing the cup and the 182 as they are both pretty equal in handling and speed but i am saying that there is a difference between the 182 and the standard 172 (any excuse for you to post a pic of your beautiful new car eh!;))

Id like to have a drive in a 182 with a few more miles on the clock to see if there really is a difference (Im sure there will be, its lighter and has more power!!). As I said earlier, the 182 I drove felt quite a bit slower than my 172, but I guess it was still a bit tight.

Handling stakes - no contest. 182 with Cup pack beats 172 hands down. That was the most noticeable difference for me.

However, Smokeys comment about the smoother power delivery have got me thinking it may have been all in my mind??!!! I was probably going just as fast as my 172, but was getting more done below 5krpm in the 182.....

own a 172 and has driven a 182 hard, the 182 was definately slower on pick-up but it was fairly new so who knows when its bedded in!!

172s handling can be sorted for £134! Set of Eibach springs and itll out handle a 182! Job done! lol

It all goes back to the same old 172 v 172 cheap v 182, on the road little or nothing in it.

Agree with Jon_r all a bit  now.

What about old 172 v 172 cheap v 182 v 182 + cheap pack v 182 cheap! We should start a new thread and discuss them all ;)

No point as a Williams will beat the lot, as its the greatest car in the whole world. ;)

I agree with Smokey, but then he agrees with me so thats got to be good.

Of course they all suck compared to the 182 Cup. ;) Pity about that steering wheel though.

PMSL at asking someone to stand next to two cars to prove they own both.

A friend of mine owns a nice 350z,perhaps if i have a pic standing next to both people would believe i own both ????

Its not the most unbelievable story in the world that someone owns 2 Clios !!! Mulder and Sculley can relax and look into other X files :p

I have 3 bottles of Stella lined up and im halfway through the second...does that count ;)

<Williams Blatent Plug Break>

Before you lads start on with the 172 vs 182 stuff you should all try driving a Williams 1 properly at least once, then youll understand the true meaning of a "drivers car" - the 172/182/192 or whatever well have next is never going to give the driver the connection and feedback that a car like the 16v and the williams gives... and its a real shame - if my 172 had the feedback of the williams and the handling well.... Id never have bought a williams - or modified my 172 LoL - Makes it all a bit of a non-argument/question really....

Anyway, sorry for the interruption..... continue guys! LoL

I dont really care about the 172 vs 182 debate, I know what I know about that.

My beef is with 182 sport, simple as. I will not post again in this thread as I think I have made my point. Basically I dont believe a word he says. If he would clear his pms I would tell him why.

Laters.

(oh and I blatantly know that someone is going to post something to try and get a retaliation out of me, but if you want that then pm me)

now look what youve started Lee:oops: talking nonsence, im ashamed of you:mad: lol

There is a difference between the 172 + 182, and although i prefer the look and sound of my Mk1 172 the SMOOTHness of the power delivery and the EXTRA umphhhhhhhhhhhhhh below 4.5-5k rpm is by far the icing on the cake. I just wish i could justify fitting the 182 engine in my 172:D and spraying it Arctic blue, then fitting the 172 engine in the 182:eek: and flogging it back to a dealer:devilish:

But as im too honest and law abiding i will stick with the 182.

182 is faster then 172 end of

Good Night all:sleep:

Have you been taking steroids? ;)

LoL @ Pete.... nah mate, Im just saying it how it is, sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.... and sometimes 10 year old cars are better ;-)

In all honesty Roamer i think the Williams is on par with the 182 but is quicker then the 172.

Well mine is almost a williams and thats my honest unbiased opinion

The 182/172 etc have no where near the driver feedback or driver connection that the williams gives.

And after driving a 182 road a track I say that the handling (with the cup suspension) isnt up to what the williams had 10 years back....

... but each to their own.

First thing I changed on the 172 was the suspension, totally agree about the lack of feedback, just get nothing back in standard form.

I say there isnt any difference after many, many comparisons.Only the other week we went to Newcastle in both clios,4 peeps in both cars, and there wasnt anything to seperate them.If there had of been we would have found out that day.
