182 revs how high?

  Renault Clio 1.2 TCe
Ok my brother bought a 182. I've driven plenty of them at work (mechanic used to be at a renault specialist in leeds). Out of the well over 100 ive driven the gear shift light comes on around 6750 rpm. To my knowledge they have all been standard apart from the odd induction kit or cat-back exhaust system. My brothers shift light comes on around 7300rpm. I was wondering if anyone else's does and if so is it because it has been remapped? The car has full service history with plenty of reciepts for timing belt, servicing and the cat-back exhaust. Nothing for remaps but it revs past the redline before the shift light appears.

Can anyone shed some light?

Standard limiter is 7200 iirc and light will come on just before. Think RS tuner map raises the limiter to around 7500

Well its hitting limiter just above 7500 and the light it definetly on around 7300. Like i said ive driven alot of tthe but ive never pushed past that light so dont know the real limiter on them (well not 100% sure)

So theres a chance that its been mapped with the rstuner?

Hi Tom it dont get that amount of revs on the road lol I was quite shocked when I saw that figure on my graph!!

Lol cool seems like it has had something, it needs a dephaser at the minute and the belt was done by some random garage 3 years ago. after I replace the belt kit (with the correct tools) and the dephaser will get a dyno read out hopefully and post it.

Mine had the K-tec "group n" ecu reflash by the previous owner and it limits at around 7800. I have no shift light, unshure why?

As others have said, it should limit at 7300 if standard, or 500rpm lower if still cold.

make sure you know how to time it mate, unsure if you have done any before but it's not just the case of having the right tools

Not to tread on any toes but it's no surprise cliosport.net doesn't trust many garages when a "renault specialist" comes on here saying they've hit the limiter on a not-warmed-up engine in "over 100" what I can only assume are customer cars?!

Maybe I've put 2 and 2 together and got 5, in which case my apologies. Maybe you've looked at the maps for 100 182s which is where you know the rev limit. Anyway, to add to what others have said, standard map is:

6750 cold, all gears
7250 warm 1st, 2nd, 3rd
7000 warm, 4th & 5th

I never said they were never warmed up, out of the ones I test around the rev range they have all been left ticking over for 20 mins just to be double sure everythings ok before i go anyway. If I knew exactly where limiters were and when they came in I wouldn't be asking. Ive never hit the limiter on customers cars just hit the shift light in a few and thought the limiter was just over 7,000 rpm. Just to clear I don't jump in a customers RS and slam my right foot to the ground like a drug dealer running from the police. I can see how what I've put can be viewed but that's not what I meant. When I do put my foot down I'm not paying attention to the rev gauge I'm usually listening for any rattles or anything that shouldn't be there. Hence why im asking about the rpm range. I honestly thought they hit the limiter around 7100 and shift light few hundred revs before. Hope that clears any doubts. If not well I know what I mean and I'm definitely not some moron, I aren't surprised people don't trust many garages if lines are read between and hairs are split.

Yeah done a fair few belts on these and never had any come backs or problems only positive feedback about how much better they run after as the timings been out for some of them. I know what you mean though.

Pretty sure my 172 revved to 7250 in all gears once warm.

Where ever you take it chances are if they've done something on the engine they're going to make sure it works throughout the rev range, cruising, under heavy load etc.

I think it's the fact that you say you were a mechanic at a "renault specialist" and don't know the limiters/when the light should come on....

  RB Clio 182
My shift light comes on at around 7.2k (standard) mine only revs to 6.8k when i havnt left it to warm up enough, it sometimes even does this 15-20 mins after start up.

I think you have ragged well over 100 1*2's from cold lol.

just insulting maybe try it one day its how there supposed to driven the twin cam will never kick in and your not doing your engine any good will just loose power sell your car and buy a 1 litre turbo that will feel faster at those revs hahahaha

Pretty sure he's winding you up mate. And twin cams never "kick in" both cam shaft's are working all the time. And the variable valve timing is active from 2k rpm, just isn't a very good map until 5k

Genuinely intrigued as to what "twin cam kicking in" means lol...

Bizarre proportion of people from Southampton in this thread too.

If you've worked on and driven that many Clios I would imagine that you'd know a bit more about them than you appear to.

And just lol at leaving a car to idle for 20 minutes before driving it. As if.

Driving mine for 6 miles it still runs on the cold map, leavin it running for a bit isn't enough before ringing its neck.
