182 shift light?

There is meant to be a shift light right before you redline telling to shift up. Don't know about the rev limit though.

Once my car is warmed up I see the green light come on in 1st 2nd and 3rd some times...
When I'm giving it some of course. I'm sure its a light that is saying HEY, your close to the edge son you should be changing gear by now!!... But hey, it's good fun.

Trust me it comes on in top gear also ;)

Your quite right, it does. German roads are great :D

If the engine is cold or not what the ECU deems safe then the limiter is about 6250 of something.

Anyway, peak power is 6500 so hitting 7250 and getting the shift light is a waste of time. Shift up earlier...

I disagree. In my experince revving to the shift light drops you back in the peak power band when you engage the next cog. When I'm giving it some beans I normally shift at about 7k which is just before or about the same time the shift light comes on. Seems to work for me anyway :D Technically I'm probably wrong though

^ Roy is correct, look at the power curve of the clio and you will see that it is optimum for acceleration to meet the shiftlight.

Rev drop at gear change:
1-2....3125
2-3....2291
3-4....1481
4-5....1192

The shift light on my 182 is so inconspicuous I'd had the car (and reached peak revs) for months before I noticed it. And then only at night. A bleep would be more useful.

You should be able to hear when you're reaching 7k+ to be honest. For some reason my eyes have become tuned to notice the shift light, but I think that's because my brain knows it's about to come on, and it tells my eyes to notice it...or something :D

I think we think the same thing, all i was saying it dont wait for the light.

Yeah fair play, I dont wait for the light either, but when I'm giving it the big potatoes I always just seem to naturally shift as it comes on anyway :D

Mine hardly ever comes on, these days it sounds like its going to blow up after 6k rpm!

Thats not good. Is it fully serviced? have you checked the oil level? Maybe she just needs a right good leathering to clear her throat? Mine has seen the limiter (when hot) at least once a day since the day it came off the trailer, and it feels very free and eager to rev.

have mine lit up like a christmas tree at pod on sunday, cars so bloody rev happy! it always wants to wheelspin or torque steer me into the nearest hard thing. i have the renaultsport ecu that increases rev limit to around 7800 but pretty pointless, like the guys have said peak power should be at 6800 - 7000 max, so the extra 800 are useless really....

It hasn't been serviced yet and has 7500miles on it. Its an 05 182 Cup and when I first had it it was ok. Now it doesn't like to rev freely, rattles loads and just drives not very nice. Gearbox is notchy too but I think they are all like that? The only gear it doesnt like is 2nd and then when going from 4th to 2nd gear its a b**ch to get in!

Already on my 2nd set of front pads! Oh yeah, my brakes are also not working properly either!

That doesnt sound right at all dude. Take it out for a PROPER leathering. The brakes can glaze over of not used hard enough, and the engine loves to be nailed hard. IMO you should take it out for a proper good hammering and see if anything feels any better. If not, then book it in at your dealer. You shouldnt be feeling this way about a car thats designed to go fast.

Just noticed, why would you be going from 4th to 2nd? You obviously can, but I wouldnt do that if I was hammering it, unless you're the king of heel & toe

Its had a goog thrashing every day since I bought it. I do 4ths to 2nds because its pointless going through 3rd and means one less gear change.
Think I might book it in at the dealer and say I'm not happy with it because it doesn't drive like it used to :(
Brakes work ok now, just the pedal now squeaks since my track day and it feels spongy (on new pads which have bedded in).

How does your clutch feel ??

That feels ok, although its a mission to get the thing to pull away. What revs are you doing to pull away normally?

The shift-light is either something the marketing department came up with, or its for those who need to be told what to do next once their car is bouncing off the rev-limiter.

It was useless in the V6, and its useless in the 182. Thankfully its blocked out by my momo now :)
