182 trip computers....How accurate are they!?

  LY 200
Strange enough question but here go's, it says iv got 135(ish) miles left in my tank (around a 1/4 in there) but that seems a little high to me.

Iv got a 60 mile motorway trip on the m25/a13 tonight and dont wanna be caught out.

I just dont wanna get stuck in murderous bank holiday traffic and find i run low so how accurate would you guys say what the comp indicates is??

Cheers

Jamie

pretty accurate but when the fuel range gets to 50 miles it will go blank an after that it's any1's guess how much u got left

Does'nt it depend on how your driving at the time.ie 100mph 80 miles to go
60mph 120 miles to go

^^^Exactly what i thought Tony but i was shall we say tanking it along this morning when i had the 135 in the tank.

I was more worried about getting caught out in stop start traffic......I think i may play it safe and pull into a garage before i get on the 25. Lol

Turn on the ignition with the button on the end of the wand pressed, and cycle through until it tells you how much fuel you've got left. That's one reading that you can rely on to be accurate. Figure out from that how many miles you can safely go before you run out.

Our 182 is pretty accurate, display goes blank with about a gallon in it, 35 'ish miles. Work mate and I were in a hired Megane on the M4 a few months back, display said range 43 miles, then went blank within 2 miles, then ran out within 1 mile!! Had to be recovered to the services 2 miles down the motorway!

No fear peeps.....I got home ok even though i did cheat by pulling into the shell and sticking 15 coins worth of juice in!!! Lol

I reckon it would've been ok but better to be safe than sorry i guess.

In my 172 it would say i had 160 miles left and I would do a 150 mile journey then fill up. I think they are pretty accurate. Apart from my special one.:S

I don't think they aren't that accurate tbh . Try the little trick with the button on the end of the stalk , check how much fuel you have left then go and fill up and check again . I've done it loads of times were i've checked how much was in the tank before filling up , filled up and then added it together and it's miles out from from the computer says .
