I've owned both, my thoughts. As a standard road car, the trophy is the pinnacle of the range. Just brilliant to drive. So if you're going to buy it and leave standard, go for that.
But, if you are thinking of modifying or track work, it's not the one to go for. Personally, a late 172 is the best bet in that situation. If your modifying there's no benefit in a 182, and if it has cup packs you have less options for suspension upgrades. For the price of a Trophy you could get a late 172, coilovers, and seats. The recaro's are nothing special, at all. The driving position is only 10mm lower than standard (you still fell like you're on a bar stool) and they aren't supportive enough for track work. The trophy setup is an awesome road setup, but easily bettered by coilovers on track.
I sold my trophy to build a ph1 172 that was better to drive, and succeeded. With change.
