182 - two annoying problems

Over the past few months or so the car seems to fail on the first turn of the key, doesn't even try to start just clicks....Over the past week it now fails twice and then fires up straight away on the 3 turn of the key.

I also have a problem with locking the car it fails to lock and like half locks itself making a click no indicators flash and the doors dont actually lock:S

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problems could be?...Do you think it could be a sign of the battery on its last legs?

Sounds like battery, nip to a local kwick fit/halfords and theyll test it for free and it'll tell u the condition of battery
