No point in that mate. Theres minimal difference between the engines. The reason the FRP is so desired is its own individuality, the handling and the insane bodywork.

there is 30bhp difference iirc. the frp's handling just makes the pumas lack of power more obvious

I honestly think the decision to sway toward a clio is I've got a puma just not and it won't be a big enough change although I know how much fun the FRP will be.

Tbh I'm thinking of leaving the trophy and saving the 1k or so and getting a 182!

If you scrape / ding it expect a big bill. Body panels are horrifically expensive.

Just a glorified fiesta at the end of the day.

Not keen on em, and with it being a Ford, and getting on a bit now rust may be a issue

You say glorified Fiesta like it's a bad thing, I wouldn't mock simple roots, especially when you're talking about drivers cars and Fords.

I have owned both a FF 182 and currently a FRP and they're different beasties really. From experience:

182:
+Better daily drive (FRP suspension is HARD)
+Quicker (in a more civilised way) on the straights. Round corners it is a different story - FRPs corner like race cars - nice controllable lift off oversteer etc, but no surprises
-Common - have you seen a FRP??
-Similar build 'quality'
+182s are better equipped
+Cheap parts as high volume car

FRP:
+(Subjective) but looks amazing
+Gets looks
+Sounds incredible (Pop pop pop BANG)
+Feels 'special'
+Rare
+Good power from a 1.7 (155bhp)
+Best brakes of any road car I've driven - the Alcons are phenomenal with ZERO fade
+Retain value

-Needs more power (being fussy) for straights
-Cost of ownership is high - brake servicing / parts etc
-You get paranoid about someone dinging those arches
-Need specialist care from someone who knows them

I'm actually selling my FRP / looking to swap it purely because I need something bigger / more 'daily driver'.

The cars are awesome - anyone who owns one or has been in one falls in love with them. Shame so many get broken for parts and / or written off

I think a lot less people are running them as daily drivers and maybe keeping them as investment/weekend cars.

Always loved FRP's but couldn't be arsed with the attention and rusty arches or lack of grunt.

182 would win for me, but make sure it's a 182 of known history because if you buy a Friday afternoon shed of a car you'll hate it.

servcing is a bit steeper on the frp, i know you mention about your family connections, the brake calipers dont have dust seals and need rebuilding on a regular basis and the rear arches suffer stone chips quyite badly.

mate had one and it was great to drive and really gripped well and the gear change was sweet, his was running 170bhp and at the time i had a 106gti at 140bhp and he always left me for dead.

the steering wheel wears quite bad, look for one without the rear spoiler, 2 kinds of frp for sale though the used ones are decent money but the stored in garage ones are still quite expensive, i know one chap had 2 one for storing and one for weekends and then a van for daily use.
