182 wipers

Is there an easy way to get the whole of the pass side wiper off?

Ive undone the nut but the wiper wont budge.

Im just trying to move the wiper down by 1 spline, to uncover more of the clear section of windscreen for a road angel.

thanks

Mate,

Careful moving you wiper down a spline, you may find that it is currently in its best position. E.g not smacking the edge of the screen.

If you are still going to do it you can use a small gear/bearing puller, to pull the wiper arm off the spline. If you aint got one of them its a case of some wd40 and brute force to try to get it free of the spline.

Hope this helps.

Oh dont forget to mark its current position, in case things dont work out.

Thanks for that.

Just wanted to see if it will go 1 spline lower, it may not without hitting the other wiper.

Not really worried if it then misses a bit of windscreen on the pass side.

chris it will work there but it will have to be sitting on the dash to get reception and its going to be too low for laser reception then I would have thought.

Ok, been on Blackspots website and cant see the arial anywhere, i take it you have to contact them in person.

But why would the radar detection work, but not laser?

chris you talking about raod angel 2 I take it? no laser reception on that just built in database and laser reception see the shiny circle on the front and the strip on the back of the unit.

I phoned them for my 5 meter antenna.

Yes road angel 2.

Take it you mean no radar detection, not laser?

If so how does it pick up temp and mobile cameras, or are all these laser.

Those of you running the external antenna, are you getting reception straight away when you turn the unit on? In non heat reflective screen cars my RA 2 works asap. It can take a few mines in the 182, and tends to drop signal very easily.

oops yep I meant to say no radar just laser.

Mobile ones are nearly always laser these days in the UK and it also downloads I believe favourite sites for mobile traps hence thats why it can do mobile sites.

r jay, yeah it can sometimes take longer with the additional antenna, as you say usually within a few seconds on non uv cars but on my 182 with the antenna near the parcel shelf it can take a couple of mins and is usually only 3 bars signal. But this is perfectly fine you dont need the full 4 bars.

Thats not good then then, as postioned in the front screen, and with out the attenna I can get four bars of signal, just the pick up is slow? Thought the attena would help with that, may just go for the front number plate sensor instead.

I agree r-jay but on my 182 it was real low to get any signal without the antenna, too low for the laser recievers to look out onto the road as they were blocked by the wipers.

Mines to low to hence the plan was to leave to move it up and get the attenna as I thought this was the solution, but if I am going to get better signal using the unit where it is, I will get the other laser sensor to compensate for the built in one being covered by my wipers.

I was hoping the additional attenna you had would make it perform as well as it did in the non UV screened cars.

Hane your tried the attenna mounted on the middle off the rear shelf? Snnoper told a friend off mine to do that with there S6 one. You have yours to one side dont you?

Did some one have theres in the rear quater light window?

With find out the prices for either option from Blackspot tommorrow. Also need to re subscribe as that has ran out.

mines in rear side window, but im having a problem with picking up satelites lately, so im moving it to side of parcel shelf in the boot

You mean the middle of the parcel shelf? it wont open then will it.

Mine works fine where it is as I said, it is nearly always on 3 or 4 bars and it works perfectly fine on that. It can locate my car and Ive had no problems.

Seriously the best option is what you were going to do, mount it slightly higher and put the additional antenna to the drivers and side of parcel shelf.

Post up a few pics of whre u have put these antennas cos im not quite sure where u have put these for decent strength signal

^^ no problems with mine there, as i say though i get mainly 3 or 4 bars signal which isnt a problem. The ra2 can pinpoint your location with this signal. Important to get the sensors looking over the wipers for laser. Laser is the one hardest to detect. Be careful to check the mounting of the antenna there, it has to be exact so it doesnt touch when closing boot.

Ordered one today, hope its here to fit at weekend.

How did you route the cables Liam?

Cheers

This was why i asked the original question.

Has anyone else tried moving the pass side wiper down, so its out of the way?

r-jay and Cuthbert the wires run down the back of the dash as in the pics, I havnt used anything just tucked it down there with a knife, goes down the bottom of the a pillar, (visible) then hidden, the power lead goes behind the pedals and into a 3 way adaptor attached to the car with double sided. I use a phone charger too thats why I have a 3 way adaptor, although you can put it straight in the socket if you wish.

The antenna runs down behind the carpet and under the skirting right to the boot. Lift the rear seat up to mount it under rear trim, and behind carpet in boot to where you see the antenna in the pic. Hardly any wire left over on a 5 meter one doing it this way. And took about 5 mins to do! lol and looks real neat. I always take the ra2 out when leaving the car and its easy to do also the wires just stay on the dash under the bracket which is obviously stuck on the windscreen.

does this make sense? ^^

Chris 182

I didnt have to alter my wipers for the ra2 to look out of the windscreen. If you look at mine from outside the car head on the sensor is just looking out of the top part of the clear square.

However my mates 182 I would not be able to do this as his wipers are higher than on mine?? possibly like yours are?

I dont know the correct way of adjutsing them as I havnt needed to look.

Think blackspot said anyway that the laser passes through the UV screen anyway iys just radar that doesnt and road angel 2 doesnt detect that anyway so you should be ok. I just made it look oit the clear square to be on the safeside.

Nice one cheers liam.

Can all the carpet and trim be lifted easily enough?

At the moment my power cable is tucked behind the dash, visable by the pillar, then tucks behind the passeger door rubber down the side and under the dash to the lighter.

With the Airel cable I will do the same with it but down the drivers side to the boot in the way you describe.

Cheers again

  Ford Fiesta

yeah it just tucks away under the skirting and behind the carpet nothing to remove at all.

easy mate.

  106 GTi

Ta, hopefully it should be in the next day or so, my spare window bracket came next day.

Liam182, i am a bit confused now.

If you didnt have to move your wipers to pick up a signal, and it will pick up laser through any part of the windscreen, why did you have to get the extra arial?

  Ford Fiesta

chris my road angel 2 will work if i lay it real low, as in sitting on the dash. But here it was too low and the wipers were blocking the view for the laser.

So I moved it high enough so it is looking over the wipers, as i said above the laser "eye" looks just to the top of the clear square. But here it will NOT pick up a signal from the satelites. So I got an additional antenna.

I take it you are wishing to mount yours low on the dash so it works then move the wipers down so it can even look over the wipers whislt sitting on the dash?

I dont know if your wipers will move low enough for that? I do know though that my 182 wipers are lower than my mates 182 and I have never adjusted them.

Ok, thanks for that.

Just makes you wonder why the put that square so low, as i believe its for toll road sensors. Why do the wipers not get in the way of those.

Not expecting you to know, just wondering.

Well Blackspot have excelled themseleves, asked for a 5 meter cable at least twice and got the 2m one sent to me? :(

Every time I order from these lot they get it wrong, Ordered a second Road Angel 2 bracket last year and they sent a Road Angel 1 kit!!!
