182 without Cup packs... why???

  Cup 172
Driving home last night and I saw a silver 182 with the lighter alloys. Got me thinking.

Why would you buy a 182 without the Cup packs (well at least the suspension) when the cost was less than 300 notes (I think)?

  182, SRT8, RS4, GT-R
All down to personal opinion i guess, although iirc 75% of 182's were sold with both cup packs.

  Yamaha R6
Because some people don't care. Or prefer the lighter wheels and suspension with more cushion I'de imagine.

I also think quite a few dealers bought demos with no cup packs on. Also, i early imports where only available without cup packs.

  Turbos.
Yeah, a combination of people not knowing about the Cup packs and moron dealers who know nothing about the Sport models so don't recommend certain bits.

The suspension differences on the cup pack wouldnt make any difference to handling / balance / grip anyway as the difference was so small. Allowing for manufacturers tolerances (which can be large on springs) the cars are in the real world, identical to all intents and purposes. You just paid £300 for a spoiler and a different colour alloy. Thats an expensive spoiler.

When i bought mine, i made sure it had the Cup Packs...The car just looks better with the Cup Spoiler and Splitter and the darker wheels and suspension feel and look better imo.

makes sod all difference, I have an un-cup'd 182 try and catch me round the twisties.

When I bought mine way back in June 04 I was well aware of the cup packs, I would have had to order a car and wait till August to get it at the price I was paying (£11,800) which is the best deal u'd get anywhere on abrand new UK 182 at the time.

Personally I don't like anthracite wheels on an arctic blue.

Each to their own, only thing that makes me wish i had cup suspension is the fact that un-cup'd shockers burst all the time.

I haven't got either on mine.
Didn't buy it from new, so didn't have the option.

Q. Are the wheels for the Cup lighter??

I asked the question on the forum not so long ago, and almost got laughed at. Apparently they are not lighter, just different colour. TRUE/FALSE??

  Arctic Blue 182
Wilsons had loads of pre reg ones without the packs on, and they said that they you cant have the packs added, you have to order it with the packs on, so they have to sell em to someone, i guess to people that dont know about the packs or couldnt careless about them. personal choice. :) i love mine though

no lighter, just a different colour.

  182 has now gone!
My 182 is not a cup, I didnt want a cup as personally I dont like the anthracite wheels, they looks grubby to me!!! each to there own... :)

I didnt have the option, but as said, I'd be surprised if they make much difference anyway... i reckon some eibachs would be better than either cup or non cup suspension.

Anyway, i think silver wheels look right on a silver car. I've seen titanium 182's with cup packs and the wheels just look plain wrong on that colour IMO. Mind you, the cup wheels really suit the black 182's.

anthracite on black 182 - yum!

Oh yes - you know it makes sense!

Not seen a 182 colour yet where anthracite does not look better.

Only colour I like the silver ones on is Arctic.

  Arctic Blue 182
was looking at Recaros on Easter Sunday, did look nice.
Still looks nice on arctic too you know!!!!! :)

ok go to a third party "tuner" on the web and pick out an aftermarket spoiler then get it sprayed professionally as an exact match and then get it fitted properly for £300, in that price add a front splitter ohh and go to lap-tab and get 4 wheels sprayed professionally in anthracite £40 per wheel.
.. almost forgot retune the damper settings yourself ? and buy some eibach sport lines that lower 15/20mm at £120 cost ohh and get them fitted also, mite aswell get a full laser align just to be safe in that too.

lol £300 some people are ungratefull

i had the choice between a racing blue 182 with cup packs, or a 182 with recaros, no cup packs and a splitter. i opted for the recaro'd one for obvious reasons, plus i plan to get coilys. i personally think the silver alloys look better on the racing blue. :)

i bought the 182 with both cup packs for looks really. i liked the spoiler and the splittler and i thought arctic blue looked better with anthracite wheels.

I have never driven a non cupped 182 but i doubt i could tell the difference

  RB + LY 182 FF
i havnt seen a racing blue with silver alloys on. but i dont think they look as good as racing blue with anthricate colour wheels.

  Silver 182 F/F
A lot of the import/car supermarket dealers brought them into the country without cup packs.I live near the Car People in Wakefield and you see loads that they sold without c/packs driving around.

  133/225/CLS AMG
I suppose you buy teh car for different reasons. Some people buy it coz its a fast, relatively cheap sporty car. Others drive it coz they want a real 'drivers' car and would want the cup pack.

I bought a Megane 225 without the cup option and I doubt I'd notice a massive difference day to day!!

  182 + Cup
I don't have the spoiler pack on my Arctic Blue one. I like the little chin spoiler but don't like the bootlid one, perferring the FF version instead.

If either of the packs is likely to make any real difference it's the suspension one, and that won't be much, but I think the anthracite looks better.

Each to their own. Personally I don't like Racing Blue and think it looks a bit gay! IMO IMO IMO before you all start!!!!!

After u've seen the 182's with both cup packs, the non cupped versions look a lot tamer/lamer

Horses for courses, I dont usually like the anthracite wheels unless they are on a black car, and stealth is the way to go... and none of the 182's are as stealthy as a titanium FF, great for the surprise factor :D

Seriously though, I've always preferred my cars to look more modest than they really are under the skin.

Is it True that 182 cup springs would not fit onto a 172? But the springs are the same as on a 172 Cup?

  Megane Mk4
I bought mine without either cup options, didnt see the point. Personally I find the anthracite alloys look like they haven't been cleaned in months and I wasn't prepared to fork out the asking price for 2 strips of vinyl either.

Ok, I've got a 4x4 sat outside but, in it's defence when your sat in the car it still feels solid on the road and you can feel most bumps with the bog standard suspension anyway.

Personal choice, plus I see it this way.. I drive it and if no-one else likes it, tough ;)

Not sure, but I do know the layout on the suspension arms are different.

Loads and loads of 182 owners who don't give a damn about any of that stuff, i spoke to a lady owner once and she just wanted the highest-spec Clio (clearly had a fair bit of money), the fact that it was a 2.0 didn't really come into it.

For every 5 owners who are passionate about them, another 5 just own them for the sake of it. Its like the Mini Cooper S, loads of owners who wouldn't use the power of a Mini One, but still have the S because it looks nicer and is high-spec.

mine is a racing blue with cup chassis but not cup spoilers.

i only choose racing blue as i didn't want to pay for metallic, likewise i didn't want to pay for the spoilers. i am a tight git :)

no other reasons.

Took mine to a car wash where the guy wanted to charge me an extra £2 for alloy wheel cleaning, until I pointed out that they are supposed to be that colour!

Ha ha... See my point..
I do agree that anthracite do look nice on the black 182. But mine is silver and don't think it looks right...
