182 without cupped packs!!!

  NEED V6!
How would you make one handle and act the same as a 182 with cup packs, maybe suspension change,
& don't they come with smaller tyres or different.
It's just there's a cheap one for sale £6500 with 18500 miles on the clock and my brother thinking of buying this but wanted to beable to have the same performance as the cupped 182's

£120 for some Eibach springs and it'll handle the same.

Local chap had those on his Cup and rated the standard items as being better and more comfortable...helped me make up my mind to stick with the standard items. Given that he used the car as a daily driver, occasional hill climb car and even took it to the 'ring I'm tempted to believe him.

The Cup suspension goes beyond just springs does it not? Nothing you couldn't buy from Renault if you wanted I am sure...

5% stiffer springs and 3mm lower. Im not convinced the actual shocks are any different other than the bolt spacing at the hub.

A 55 reg with 18k miles should be priced around £6500 IMO. Its a spot on price for such a car when you have examples 2 years older with 3 or 4 times the mileage going for just over £1k less.

Im sure ClioSport is the sole reason why our cars are depreciating so quickly!

It is. ClioSport is our own worst enemy as far as prices are concerned!

I was offered £6k trade in for mine only two weeks ago.

Depends what you're buying tho, Daz.

Im sure Ferrari would give me £10k for my 106.. It just means I wont be getting a discount..

Yup, CS seems to devalue cars instantly.

Trade price on a 55 plate with 30k miles is £6k
(Feb price)

So adjust for millage etc....
Its a shame CS undervalues cars so much. I think we are to blame for all the low RS prices ;)

Very true Dan, I just meant that £6500 from a dealer for a low mileage 55 plate is about spot on. Without the packs I guess £6000 would be a perfect price! :)

Springs are 20% stiffer on the front, 15% at the back, according to the original Evo article.
Would there be any reason for altering the bolt spacing if the shocks were the same?

A cars book value, and the price it will sell at, are 2 different things at the moment.

The hubs are reinforced iirc which is probably the reason for the different spacings so the shocks aren't interchangeable.

Ayeski.

I just think £6.5k isnt "cheap" especially without the packs. But then I think they are over-rated.. But thats another story..

People will go on about the 182 they got with the belts done, FSH and 1k miles that cost £200. But I never see these advertised. I must look in the wrong places! lol..

Agree, the cheap ones always seam to be dogs, had the bumpers resprayed etc, and i'd want to know why.

Its funny a thing really. People buy cars and im sure lie about how much they cost. Always undervalue to say they got a better deal.

But then people buy computers/cameras/clothes and they always want to say how much money they spent and how expensive a pair of jeans theyre wearing.

Its a strange world.

In the real world i dont think there would be much of a noticable difference between the two tbh.

Might be over-rated, but by the time you've spent money on a cup spoiler and splitter (which IMO do enhance the looks), eibachs, and refurbed the wheels (which just look crap in silver) the cup packs work out much cheaper.

Pre-credit crunch I got a Racing Blue 182 Cup with 15k on the clock for £6750, couldn't get a 182 for anything less than about £7k-7.3k up here....Whilst a 182 Cup might not be as desirable as a 182 FF I'd pick one over a regular 'cooking' 182 any day of the week....mileage condition dependent £6.5k would have been pretty snazzy up here 4 months ago...can always knock a few hundred off though!

Nothing wrong with the cup IMO. What makes me laugh is people bitching about the 182cup due to it not being light enough, then fapping over a 172cup with climate control.

I had a 2004 182 from new with no cup packs (dealer delivery times led to me taking what was on the forecourt) for 3.5 years and about 40k miles mainly a and b road. It didnt slow me down at all. still has the benefits of wider track, longer wheelbase different gear ratios etc over a phase 2 172.

The front hubs are lighter and the dampers are a bit different. To add cup pack front hubs will allow you to use any 182 cup coilovers etc as there's nothing really to suit the non cup packed front end without camber bolts

Fpmsl, so true on here.

it is a buyers market though, you'll see 05 182s going through auctions for under £5K. 04 182s going privately for £4.5-5.5k easy.

I sold my 182 for £6750 with FRSH pretty damn tidy 40k miles - in late 2007!

I got a lot of 172 for not a lot over £3k yesterday

  BG FF182
I have been looking round at 182's myself lately, there are three Clio 182's for sale near me at the mo an

04 with 40K at £6000
54 with 32K at £5795
54 with 23K at 36795

Ironically after driving them all the older high mileage one feels the tightest, most responsive one but doesn't seem to crash through pot holes and over drawn covers. But with none of the garages being Renault dealers of specialists I can't get a lot of info out of them about the cars other than whats in the service book and the bills they have.

Is there any way to tell visually if it has the cup pack / packs on them?
Also one sounds completely different to the other two, is there a way of telling whether the exhaust is standard or aftermarket?

Sorry to hijack the thread,

Jon

I would only buy a car that I knew some history on, so many friday afternoon cars around. Worth buying from someone on here where you can search the history easily IMO

Jon

cup suspension pack has anthracite wheels as opposed to silver. cup spoiler pack has 172 cup style spoiler and a front splitter

standard exhaust has quite puny straight tail pipes with a rolled edge, the exhausts hold water and corrode really badly to the point that 182s often fail their first mot for emissions

Same gear ratios AFAIK.
