182 wont start Help Please!

My clio has been sat for a little while went to take out and it wont start just lots of clicking when turn ignition on thought was battery so i changed battery and it started first time! and second time (problem solved i thought) went to garage to fill up with petrol went to pay came back out and it wont start again so bump started it got it home which it started to die on way home lights flashing on off etc but this morning started after a few tries but again now it wont start again ive tried a few things recommend resetting immobiliser etc but anyone got any ideas?

sounds like a dead battery due to non-charging alternator. You need to check the voltage across the battery when its running, it should be at around 14, anything less than 12 and the alternator is not working correctly.

even if its new ? i bought it yesterday :/

that doesn't mean its charged, and it will drain quite quickly if the alternator isn't working.

Have you taken it for a decent run? The new battery could have been sat on the shelf for weeks, if not months? Exact same happened to mine last year. Swapped the battery out, but then took it on a 60 mile trip (inc. a fair bit of motorway). It's been fine ever since. Or....

If your alternator is packing up - check for obvious signs of things 'slowing down'. The wiper motion should be a lot slower and the dashboard is probably much darker than normal. A good indicator is if the wipers are set to full speed and they appear to be slower than a normal sweeping motion, then your alternator maybe fecked.

yeah think it is the alternator anyone have an idea of how much they are to replace?
