182_steve's FF 182 progress thread!

Car looks awesome as always steve. That flight surround bumper section in that pic is one of the cleanest I've seen!

Debobler is a great little cheap investment. People used to use Stanley blades but this is safer and easier.

Once the powercoating is done that bay will look great. You going bright silver?

Thanks Mark! Yes I'd like it a decent, oem type silver, but not tooo bright but not dark either. If that makes sense? I'd like it to match the wheels ideally but doesn't have to be a perfect match, looking forward to getting it done now. Long time coming I think!

There's some very annoying stone chips on the front bumper, especially above the number plate, that the camera seems to hide but overall, it's not bad at all for 12 years old and 72k :blush:

Looking good as always, engine bay will soon be looking minty fresh as well.

I've been meaning to do mine and I'm going to have a go at rattle canning it I think.

Have been getting a few parts organised the last few days for the small-ISH engine bay freshen up mentioned in the previous posts!

Thanks to @mossyv6 for the spare upper inlet manifold;

This (with the existing fuel rail guard from the car) has been taken to the powder coaters this morning and dropped off. Hoping to have them back in around 7-10 days. I got my Turini's done there at the end of last year so hoping for a close colour match for my OCD *cough* OEM looks :smile:

I also have the usual gaskets ready to go on from when the car gets put back together with the freshly painted parts;

Bought new engine cover bolts today - both black AND silver (+ spares) and will decide which I prefer at the time;

..... and lastly, new stainless steel bolts for joining the upper and lower inlet manifolds. Just to keep things fresh!

So after nearly two weeks, (not 7-10 days like they said!), I finally have the upper inlet and fuel rail guard back after being powder coated silver. I must admit, it was well worth the wait :smile: they've come out very well and a nice fresh silver which is what I wanted!

I think it's safe to say that the new one will look a bit better than the old one when fitted;

A few other photos...............

NOTE: I took these as the light was starting to go so due to this, the parts actually look a bit more grey than in 'real life'
But gives an idea of what they are like :up:

Hopefully soon, they can go on!

Can you recall the spec on the bolts that mate the lower inlet to the block? Cheers.

How much did that cost @182_steve?

I've just moved and got a powdercoating place literally 5 mins walk down the road so I may get mine done, although I've got a few more pressing issues to sort first.

Been a good day on the car today with both the freshly powder coated upper inlet and fuel rail guard being fitted. @T9 0LLE was on top form and did all the work for me, top man! :up: Needless to say, the difference is night and day. Makes me think "why didn't I do it sooner?" !!

With the engine cover off, it was clear to see what was on the car needed replacing;

Then, when *trying* to take a serious photo, someone photobombs it! 😂

Then it was a case of getting it all stripped down ready to fit the shiney new parts;

Good to see the RS inlet in place!

Mr. OCD clean here didn't think to clean and wash out the inlet prior to fitting, so Ollie was straight on it.
In my defence, I did only pick it up last night lol!

Quick drying method straight from the book of man maths;

Then the finished item, all done and sorted. Took a wee bit longer than expected, but for a proper job, you can't rush these things!

Well chuffed with the finished results, just needed the engine cover re-fitted;

......... job done!

Wow!!!! That looks great :smile: what's a difference and good to see @T9 0LLE helping out :smile:

Thanks mate, it's getting there, on the road to minty freshness :smile:
@T9 0LLE is a good old boy your right, that's the thing with these cars and on here, fellow owners happy to help!

Looks great, as expected! But now the sore spot is the throttle body. Oops sorry for planting that in your brain.

Not at all bud, I agree! Wasn't sure whether it would be a ball ache to do or not so wimped out and left it, but it'll be ok for a while :up:

Don’t mind helping out mate... did it feel any more responsive with the throttle body having been cleaned?? I definitely think you need to paint the cover though!

Didn't notice a huge difference but maybe a little more responsive yes, crazy how all that crap builds up......... sourcing a spare engine cover for colour testing purposes is defo on the list! :wink:

Just been looking through some old photos of the Clio that I've been building up during my ownership so far and with all my posted pictures inside this thread being spread over many different pages, I thought i'd post some 'before' and 'after' shots here and now comparing it between when I first bought it in May 2016 and now, November 2017! Some areas have seen much change, other areas not a lot but overall i'm really pleased to say it's come quite far really :smiley: I keep saying that's it now, but as we ALL know...... these cars are never finished!

You know what, I think it looked very smart on the standard wheels. Do you still have them?

Yes I do still have them, tucked away in the garage......... I liked them too when I got the car, especially as they were in a nice silver, but as soon as the Turini's went on, I knew they were the wheels for me :up:

Apologies if you don't agree but for me the 182 must have the original 8 spokes fitted with a slightly lowered height - perfection in my eyes.
