197 - bad acceleration.

Hi guys,

I was expecting a lot quicker acceleration from my 197, however, it seem's fairly sluggish.

Is there a known bad spot on the 197 that needs mapping out or are they generally not too quick at acceleration?

Once it gets going it flys but the initial take off is slightly disappointing.

Considering you have a ph1, i would say, your feeling the extra weight of the 197. This is the reason i wouldn't have one after my 172 cup. I love the looks of them, but it would annoy me i think.

Makes perfect sense really, it's just quite upsetting! Ha.

ive never had a 197 but ive had some quick ph1 and ph2's and never felt any issues with my 200, if anything it was quicker! do you have an aftermarket exhaust? if so search for the flat spot on here and you will find out more info when running aftermarket exhausts on them

Flatspots are common with a zorst and a nightmare with a decat but it's very obvious it's a flatspot at fault as opposed to sluggish acceleration.

They do take time to get going, very heavy compared to a mk2, make up for it in the bends!

They take off a lot better if you get the revs up, but then you're lunching the clutch. If you don't get them in the sweet spot they actually aren't all that quick.

Good under braking though & in to bends.

They're awful compared to what they should be.. IMO. Not fast at all.. feel far too slow compared to the mk2s.

My 200 felt & was quicker than my sister other halfs old 172 cup, not sure how healthy it was though lol.
