197 Buyers Guide ?

What 750 all in i take it ? mines include Courtesy car n Legal cover too

Yea that's for everything, so it's not too bad in the scheme of things - but as I paid my insurance in full for the first time this year, when I change car I'll have to pay the extra straight off, so the less the better really.

I recenlty moved house about 1.5miles down the road, its now classed as a higher risk area and put my premium up about £60?!

Some early and emerging problems are:-

Poor / jerky performance on cold (just like the 182s and 172s, but there is a software fix for the 197 so drive it from cold and see).
Probs getting into first and 3rd when cold / crunchy gearbox (older boxes on some models).

Glovebox lid out of alignment.

Rattles from rear exhausts.

Squeeky brakes (not a fault but a common niggle due to the brake compound so nothing to worry about).

Dashboard lights can flash on and off i've heard.

Seat fabric wear.

As said per PM, you MUST make sure the AC works, there seems to be a handfull out there (meggys too) that imo renault cant fix. (mine being one) Its cars with Climate that seem worst affected....

Also with the age of car (as pm convo) i doubt they will be new enough to have the Recaors. As also said they are very nice, but not essential, you will be suprised by the standard ones........They are much better than the MK2 mush

Yeah was remembering that from the PMs mate hasnt got Climate just AC so hoping it isnt problimatic like yours is !

As for seats i had a go in an old 172 Cup a couple years ago n never noticed a diff compaird to my PH1's been in a Mk3 for a year and havent really had a problem in the standard seats in it so can see the standard sports seats being a pain as they look alot more huggin in pics than standard !

You'll love it mate. Just been braaap'in around in mine before, once warm they are a riot tbh!!!

Oh remember what i said about any gearbox crunching, though take it steady anyway, the gates are very close togeter between gears. Took me a week to et used to it anyway!

What! your insurance is only 1k for a 197??? I'll be 20 next year and would LOVE a 197 and willl have 3 yrs no claims by then. Will have to enquire about it when im 20 im thinking after reading this! lol.

Well went for a quick drive in one just there have to say power is nice compaird to the 1.6 up at 110 in no time handeling nice and responsive to, only had it on the MWay though as there was f**k all petrol in it and when i dropped a cog light came on (oooppsie) one thing that got to me but think it was cause Radio was off n no music but in 6th sitting at 4,500 doing 70 is damn high is it not ! ?

One thing that did annoy me though was going over bumps there was a squeek coming from the rear end witch im asuming was the Shocks ??

Few things on the car too like wheel Slightly Curbef in the center area ( how the person managed that i do not know, Slight scratch on drivers door and also same on Passengers. Inside was clean as to be fair but there was a small and i me like small ! tear/bobble in the drivers door card material.

All this for the sum off 9999 but in the end with the Finance cover thing and somin else came to 10495 or there abouts ! and the price is unbudgeable !

Part from that it seemed a really nice example but due to me now been giving a Months notice of Redundancy dosnt look like itll be mine

tis a buggar at least youve got a nice car till you can afford to upgrade an it may be even better
